I am so annoyed!

DH left his keys on the hall table on Sunday night and when we got up yesterday morning they, and his car were gone!! It seems that someone put a hook through our letterbox, hooked the keys with it and drove off in his Lexus. He is devastated - he loved that car more than he loves me!!

No hope of getting it back of course, the Police say it will be miles away by now. And of course the insurance will drag their feet and only pay out the bare minimum so it will probably cost us a major chunk of change to replace it.

I wouldn't mind but last year we paid a fortune to have the whole house double glazed with locking windows so that it would be more secure. Never thought about a locking letterbox though!!

We have definately learned this lesson the hard way - NEVER leave your keys in view!!

:( Oh Sue, I am sorry for this horrible business. Unfortunately Lexus' are very popular cars for stealing. Let's hope your one turns up safe and sound sooner rather than later. Have the insurance company let you hire a car on them in the meantime?

:( You can't leave anything lying around these days :(
Where's the days gone where you could leave your door open all night? without anything going missing etc?
I am sorry :(

OmG! Frankly that sounds like someone who knew what they were looking for. Maybe someone who's been the home recently to do work? Just a thought.

So sorry for you.

That is very unfortunate as Lexus are known for being extremely hard to steal.

I have one, took it to the garage for a service and moaned at them for not locking the steering column. They laughed and said, even with the steering unlocked, it would be extremely difficult to steal. I hope they're right.

I've seen adverts on Tele about leaving car/house keys within view of the letterbox - not seen them recently though.

Hope he gets it back - you never know.

Just heard back from the Police, it seems that we have very little hope of recovering the car. No surprises there then! It also turns out that another car was stolen at the same time, just around the corner from us so it looks like we were targeted by professionals.

Thankyou all for your good wishes, it's nice to know that the support is there.

No hire car from the insurance company - only if you are in an accident apparently. Luckily Jorges dad has two cars and is lending us one for the duration so at least we don't have to walk to work!

Sue - sorry to hear about your loss :(

JJ - just had a pal who has had his new top of the range Porsche nicked (about £80,000 worth of motor!).

It had a tracker fitted but this was removed in about 10 - 15 mins of being stolen! (They saw it going down the road!)

Police reckon it was stolen to order and is currently in Europe somewhere.

Just goes to show doesn't it

Shaun i find that very strange as no-one only the guy who fits it knows were it is -- A sales rep at Merc here in Belfast had his top of the range Merc stolen in the same way as Sues DH and they recovered it in 30 mins

Now i do know how they weed out cars fitted with trackers - they'll steal them ( this is in belfast now ) put the stolen car in the ferry car park wait a few days and if it hasn't been recovered then its fine to send abroad.

jj..... :(

I am sorry, if they retreived your car, lord knows what damage would of been done to it.
My Brothers Mercedes was pinched and they used it for handbag snatching, there was loads of ladies bags, purses, tampons etc all over the back seats etc, it was recovered miles away and when they brought it back, it was a right mess! he was well heartbroken, you buy a car/a home/ anything to be yours, its a horrible thought when someone takes it/ or comes into your property, GR! :(

Gone are the days where you could trust anybody, you could leave your door open, and nothing happen, kids could play outside happily and freely.
Whats it going to be like in 10years from now?
I dread the thought.

(sorry to go "off topic" a bit).

JJ - yes, it's a mystery or just a "put up" job.

Apparently you can get a device that'll show where the tracker is transmitting from and remove it.

They thought they had found the car less than 3 miles away but just found the device discarded behind some lock-up garages.

Really Shaun i'd never heard of that -- as you say then stole to order

jj.........

My Brother's car was stolen and used in an armed robbery !!

He eventually had to sell it as he kept being stopped by the police - it was a marked car. Caused him no end of hassle.

So sorry for you and shocked to hear what happened. I am always leaving my keys in full view of the window. I will not any more

I also have a lexus and agree with Holly they are known to be one of the hardest cars to break into (unless you have the key).

I know from experience managed to lock the keys in the boot of mine about 80 miles from home! A very nice RAC man had to help me out.

:grouphug:

Hope you manage to sort out the insurance, etc. without too many problems. It's the sheer inconvenience of things like this, as well as the expense, that is so annoying. :(

Sue, that must have been a real shock. Unfortunately, this type of theft is becoming more common in the UK because cars are more difficult to break into without the keys and therefore criminals now try to get the keys. I have heard of this type of theft quite a lot in newspaper reports locally.
