Someone please help

While I don't know that I can offer much help, I am pretty sure you can change your location if it's available. It sounds like Atlantic Dance Hall might be cool and fit great with your colors and it's in the same area as Ariel's.

As for your DF's parents, we just had the weekend from **** with my DF's parents telling us the same thing AND telling us they are no longer going to pay for half of the wedding. 3 months before the wedding, and now we have to come up with $10,000!!!!!!!!!! We're FURIOUS!!!! So here is a hug because I KNOW how you feel! :grouphug:

Karen - that's horrible!!!! :scared1: How could they do that to you at this point in planning????!!!!! I'd be flipping out right now... good luck!! Here's some pixie dust for you... pixiedust: pixiedust:

I agree with everything everyone else has been saying about you not needing a theme. And that if you just select things you love and not worry about the overall look, it'll still be lovely. But I read your post shortly before I went to bed last night, so my mind was wandering through options as I fell asleep. So for what it's worth, I thought I'd share my sleepy thoughts...

The first thing that popped into my head for red & black is playing cards. Which led me to think of Alice in Wonderland, which could be a really fun Disney theme. One that's not mickey/minnie. And then you've got the red rose garden and the queen of hearts. Even one of those fun mad-hatter cakes, perhaps?

I agree with what everyone else has been saying about not needing a theme. I was just like you when I was planning our wedding... I had no idea what theme we would have and in the end, we put a whole bunch of ideas together, thanks to the wonderful people on these boards. I have to say though, I LOVE the Alice in Wonderland idea!!! :thumbsup2 Maybe I should do more creative thinking while I'm going to sleep....
Our wedding ended up having the theme of: The Maffia takes over Cinderella and Prince Charming's Christmas wedding celebration.... :rotfl: We had Christmasy type flowers and centerpieces, we had glass slippers as place card holders and my dress was a total Cinderella type gown and the boys wore zoot suits that made them look like 1920's gangsters!! It was great!! And everyone loved the reception. Nobody said anything about our theme. They were just so overwhelmed with how beautiful the wedding and Disney in general was. Good luck and keep us updated with what you decide!! ;)

I agree with everyone else, you definitely don't need a theme. If your SM said you will not be able to see the fishy decorations in Ariel's, then I would trust him. They do a lot of weddings and know what they're talking about :)

I know what you mean about thinking everyone else's weddings on these boards looks perfect. They really do! I often wonder if my wedding will even compare to everyone else's. But I am sure it will. I have never, ever seen an unpretty wedding at Disney. I think you are just feeling normal stresses of wedding planning, as we all have ;) I'm sure everything will work out. Until then, we're always here for you

Thanks. I think it was my brother who came up with the official name of our theme a couple days before we left for the wedding. It was so much fun.

No matter what you decide, it will be beautiful. Jen is right, every Disney wedding is amazing. Have faith. Everything will turn out wonderful. Don't stress too much about it. Wait til your planning session and tell them your concerns. THey will help you work through it all. And you are always welcome to vent here. That's what these boards are for. ;)

Wow sweetie.. You are going through some worries... I am nervous for you... If you are going with black and red I would choose another Venue than Ariels... Being that Ariels is so beachy and Under the sea... Check out Atlantic Dance Hall.. I am sure you can change your Location...I think that would be your best bet... Good Luck:thumbsup2

Are there any restrictions with ADH? Our wedding is at 5 pm, so the reception would be well until 11 pm or so. My concern with ADH is I know you have to be out of there early...

hmm I think the colors are great! I think it will work out. I saw Ariel's on my site visit and there were a ton of colors in the place! If you are concerened with the red tables could you flip the colors?

I saw a wedding table that was red underneath and black overlay. For the centerpiece they had simple bowls with floating candles and red petals it was gorgeous! the candles really poped on the black! I am not sure if you are totally oppossed to the sea thing but just to tie in the decor a bit you can add just a few seashells to the table because the decor is quite obvious night or day in Ariels because of the chandaliers and fish tank.then You can keep your colors and just tone the red down.I think it will look great. Just a suggestion.:goodvibes

Oh and with ADH you can do a total buyout for the evening but I believe the minimum is a bit higher!

So...How much would a total buyout be? If anyone knows. For a friday night.

Thanks! I need it! That's why I haven't been around here lately, they sucked all the fun out of this whole wedding and it's making me sad :( It's a long story and I don't want to highjack this thread, so I'll leave it at that.

OP: I'm going to look around for some ADH info for you today and see what I can find out.

Oh Karen :sad2: I am so sorry this happened to you! I bet they sucked all of the fun out of wedding planning! I don't even know what to say... I hope everything works out. You don't deserve this

Karen im sorry you had a bad weekend-- $10,000 is a whole lot of money! :sad2: I dont blame you for being furious!

OP- A theme really isnt necessary-- having your colors is big decision in and of itself! And as for eloping-- I think weve all heard that atleast once or twice, and in a way you kind of are... I think we all resort to a Disney wedding because somewhere in side of us being at Disney allows us to be more ourself and have it our own way-- kinda like eloping makes it all about you-- so does a disney wedding. Where as most of us know if we were to have to have it at home-- it would have to be about the aunts and uncles cousins brothers and what their little snicker comments would be as to what they thought about the colors you chose or what 'so and so' was wearing! Dont worry about it-- we all have that in common-- and to be honest I have never seen one ugly photo of a disney wedding! So look forward to a great wedding, no theme necessary, and a day full of love and laughter even if its only you and your DF- because in the end those are the only two people who matter on your day-- the rest are just a spec of dust in the grand scheme of things. This day is about preparing for a marriage-- which is far more important than a silly theme! You do it your way-- your colors are very pretty and will go wonderfully together. A big hug from me to you!

Karen I wrote this earlier in the thread and hope that you saw it. Im so sorry!

Well, I'm sure you could change locations to somewhere more fitting. As far as th in-laws go, they do not know, even though were close. We decided to let them know by invitation along with the rest of our guests. They want us to be "smart" with our money and use it for a down payment for a house. *rolling eyes* And attedants, were not having any. I lost a friend because of the wedding, she wanted to be the maid of honor and drop the best friend act and when I needed her as a friend, she said just because she is my maid of honor didnt make her someone I came to *****ing about my problems *rolls eyes again* Jus tremember, this is your day, Disney knows and agrees and will do whatever they can do to make you happy. They dont just want your money, they want you to be happy and thats how they make their money, not where or how. Look at it this way, the less guests, the more money you have. You might be able to downsize to a custom and blow the money saved on a honeymoon suite for 2-3 nights. This is your wedding don't let anyone ruin it for you.

Thanks Jen and Maggie!! I have chosen to rise above it and celebrate and be excited with my family and my DF and just forget about the negative rude attitudes of his family. Now you see why I don't even want to take their last name!
