I have this cat who, as soon as I fill the water bowl up, he knocks all the water out. I don't know what to do. I have three cats and they never get any water because this one cat is always spilling it all over the floor. It is ruining the carpet as well. Also, we can not leave him overnight with the others because he will spill the water and they will dehydrate.

I have tried many different types of bowls and the same with them all. I have the kind with the rubber on the bottom that is supposed to be spill proof. I don't think so...

I wanted to get the dispenser kind. Well this cat is allrgic to plastic and that's the only kind I've seen. His bowl has to be metal, glass or ceramic.
Last night I fill it up, went to the store and when I got back, there was a big wet spot on the floor and no more water. This has been happening all week, it has been really bad this week, more than others.

Does anyone else have this problem? I don't know what else to do.

Can you buy one of those running fountain type things? They may sell them at brookstones, or even petsmart.
Your cats are adorable. Which one is the culprit?

The orange furbaby of course. Aren't they always the most insane? :rotfl: He;s so spoiled and I love him to death but he is B-A-D...

The running fountain sounds like a good idea, except I know one of my cats will have nothing to do with it because he is scared of everything that moves or makes noise (that would be the grey and white one). Thanks for the suggestion!!!

My cat does the same thing....it drives me nuts.....then he'll go and try to drink out of the toilet. So, I keep the toilet closed and (maybe I'm mean), but I won't give him anymore for an hour. We don't have carpet though, and for that I am lucky.

I know that this works for dogs, so probably will for cats.

You can put weighted stones in the bottom of the water dish so they aren't able to flip the dish up.

I don't know. The only problem I have with Simba is that he is so handsome I just can't take it sometimes. ;) :teeth:

You could always epoxy the bowl to the floor! :teeth: Or just keep the toilet seat up, pretty soon they'll figure it out!

talk about torturing the cat!!! :lmao:

Hahaha it must be an orange cat thing! One of my cats the orange one does the same exact thing. So now I don't even bother with the bowl of water. They will either drink out of the toliet or run to the sink as soon as I get home for me to turn on the faucet.

I am cat-sitting my daughter's eight month old kitten. Yes, she's orange, and yes, she's an odd one too!

What she does, is drink out of Chloe's water bowl. The thing is, Chloe's water bowl is elevated about 18" off of the ground. It's on wooden stand and both her food bowl and her water bowl are set into the hole.

It would be impossible for a cat to knock it over, because only the rim of the bowl sits exposed. Farrah hops up on Chloe's and laps the water that way, or she stands on her hind legs and drinks.

I found this one that has the bowls recessed just like Chloe's, but it sits closer to the ground:

Would that work?

ETA: If even this won't work, I'd superglue the underside of the rim of the bowls, to the base. BTW, this one was on Petsmart's website.

Also, the rims of Chloe's bowls are flatter and even I have a hard time getting it out of the base. I have to push it from the underside and grab it from the top at the same time.

How about a LARGE heavy bowl (maybe stoneware?) something heavy that can't be turned over easily, I know it would mean more water if it does go over. Heck even a heavy pot.

I have 2 little black kittys that love to spill the water. The elevated bowls the pp mentioned work very well, I think mine came from either Target or Petsmart and is at just the right height for our babies to eat and drink out of without bending down. When Figaro was just a baby he would climb onto the edge of the bowls so he could eat the adult food, he always ended up with wet feet.

Mine does it sometimes, especially if she realizes that we are leaving for an extended trip. She's not orange, though, actually our ornage one is the most whiny- he's such a baby!

Anyway, we just clean it up and leave the toilet open for her to go play in (she prefers messing with deeper water than the dish). Also, our problem is that she flicks the water out instead of tipping the bowl over.
You may want to look into getting something heavier like a heavy dog bowl.

I agree with the elevated bowl idea. We have one...it works great!!!

We also have 3 cats, our bengal used to dump the water. I now use an old saucepan, the heavy glass ones for corning I think. He can't knock it over but he occasionally plays in the water and does spash it some. This works well for us, good luck.

OMG, I can't believe I just opened this thread. I just cleaned up the water mess TWICE within ten minutes. We have 7 cats and only one has this water 'fetish'...'Jack-jack", bad kitty!!!!

We used to have a gravity water feeder, but he would literally force the top part off and get water everywhere. Then I put down just a regular bowl and he would flip it over. Now, I have a HEAVY bowl that he cannot flip over....and he just goes crazy splashing water all over the kitchen.

I have no idea why he does it, he doesn't even do it every day. But, when he does get in that water frenzy mood...he will do it over and over again.

I have looked at the water fountain type things, but I think that would just entice him more.

I know your pain. LOL, I have no idea what to do about it.

ETa...this is Jack-Jack, getting in more trouble the day I put my Christmas decorations up. This was right after he woke up...fell asleep after getting all tangled in the garland...he is so bad!

My little fur baby does the same thing. I started only giving filling up the bowl a little bit so that there's less for him to spill. I would try getting the dispenser kind for the other two cats so that they can get some water. I'm not really sure if there is anything you can do to get him to stop spilling the water out of his bowl though. If there is I'd like to know too. How old is your cat? Mine is just 6 months old so I'm hoping he'll grow out of it.

As far as the carpets, you could try putting a placemat under the dishes to at least protect the floor a little bit. Or you could try a tray or even a cookie sheet with a lip around it so that the water would be contained to one area. In fact I think I might try that idea myself. I'm getting a little tired of stepping in puddles of water. Good luck.

Yes,my cat did that until I got a big, round steel bowl with rubber on the bottom.Actually I think it was a dog bowl. The edges came out further then the bowl part so now he can't spill it over.I do keep a plastic bowl in the bathroom and he goes in and rubs his paw along side of that until the whole thing spills on the floor then just sits there looking at it.
He so cute I just have to laugh when he does that! Poor little guy looks stunned everytime!
