we just came back from our anniversary trip from the wilderness lodge. i think it's a perfect place to escape the summer heat because it always felt very cool inside. very refreshing after sweltering outside in the HEAT. took alot of great pictures of this beautiful resort during our trip. the only problem is the beds our room. we had a standard room with 2 queen beds. the first moment i entered the room and the turn around to tip the bell guy i already knock my foot in the side of the heavy wood frame of the bed. the bell guy kinda laughed as to say that happens alot. we have a four year old boy and a 8 month old girl..our son loved to run and spin and do things active litlle boys do at his age..well, we really had to keep our eye on him b/c if he did fall he could get hurt on those framed beds!

we want to go back during xmas for our son's 5th b-day but thenour daughter will be a toddler and i know how much the fall down. the beds worry me yet i love this resort. does anyone else feel the beds frames at WL could be a problem. disneymouse

Yes, the beds can be painful if you stub your toe or hit your shin. With the kids I would suggest a WL room with bunk beds as this may giv a little more floor space.

When I have a bed with a large frame I make sure to turn the bedspread up so that I can see the frame.

Yes, when my husband and I were on our honeymoon at Wilderness, I kept catching the leg of the frame with my toe and eventually ended up spraining it. Ugh, did I feel like a klutz, but I've never had that problem at any other resort. I wonder if it's related to the size of the room. In ours, we felt like we had a very narrow space between the beds (2 queens, I think) and the TV/armoire.

However the resort is beautiful and when we stay again, which I'm sure we will, I'll just give the beds a wide berth :)

We will not be staying at WL until Feb., so I have not experienced this firsthand, but I read on another post that WL is considering changing beds because of the number of complaints of hurt feet and shins. I hope so! My BF is famous for stubbing his toes on furniture. Almost nightly (honest!), he will get up to do something and when he comes back to bed, he will smash his toes into the low frame of our bed. We have a LARGE master bedroom, so he has plenty of room to navigate around the bed, he just does seem to be able to. I am no help...it always sends me into fits of hysterics  I think it's kind of like that whole seeing someone slip on the ice. NOT funny, but I can't help it.

For his sake, I hope they do switch the beds to one more guest friendly. We'll be going with my 3 children, and I requested bunks for their room. Hopefully we'll get them, and they may be a little safer!

If you haven't notified management of your injury, maybe you should do so so that they are aware of the problem. The more complaints and the more likely they are to switch to a non-toe crunching, shin biting bed!

Hope your foot feels better! If not, here's some pixie dust to help :wizard:

While I love everything about WL, I did find myself cursing those beds just about every day. They really hurt! :( I would be pleased to hear of them changing the beds. We stayed at the Grand Californian while at DL in CA, which has themely VERY similar to WL. The beds at this hotel did not have the toe/shin smashing problem at all and were just as beautiful. Maybe they'll swap them out for the same kind of bed? :D

If I remember correctly, I believe it was AKL where I hit my shin on the bed. Does anyone know if the beds are the same, or at least similar at these two resorts?

I'm staying at WL in December so will be careful near the beds!

Well, this is not the first post I have read about people stubbing toes and hitting shins on WL beds. We will be there in a week, so thanks for the head up -- hopefully we'll avoid them.

Are the beds the same as in AKL? We were there last summer, and didn't hurt ourselves on those legs.

It happened to me too at the WL. Ouch that hurts. I don't mean to sound paranoid but I wouldn't recommend requesting bunk beds with toddlers either. Before our trip to WL a few years ago I called the resort with a question and got a very friendly CM who asked all about our trip. When we checked in she had sent a fruit and cheese basket to our room with a note saying she made sure we got a room with a good courtyard view (which we had paid for) and that she thought my sons would like the bunk beds. That was so sweet but what she didn't know was that I cringed when we walked in and saw the bunk beds because my sons were only almost 4 and the other 22 months. The cm was young so I'm sure she didn't have kids but since she was so sweet to go out of her way I didn't want to ask for a different room. I had my dd who was 7 sleep on the top bunk but of course when we were in the room the boys wanted to climb up and down which I wouldn't let the youngest do unless I helped him. Sure enough one morning dh goes downstairs for coffee and danish and I'm in the bathroom and hear, "Kaboom!" Yup, it was my almost 4 year old who had fallen from the top of the ladder. Luckily he was ok but I can't recommend bunk beds with little ones unless they are accustomed to them. Just my 2 cents.

I'm pretty certain WL & AKL have the same kind of beds. I've hurt myself on the beds at both resorts.

I'd also like to say thanks for the heads up on this topic! I have not read all of the WL threads, so this is actually the first I've heard of this. I don't remember this being a problem in the 2-bedroom villa we stayed in at the WLV. However, we'll be at the WL in October, so I will certainly mind my step around the beds.

The moment that we settled into our room at CBR my son had a "run in" with the bed. I have great pics of him with a black eye for alot of our vaca photos!

No I don't think the bed frames at WL could be a problem anymore than any other piece of furniture anywhere. You just have to be careful and not run into them. Last I heard I don't think they were attacking anyone, :)

Thanks for the heads up on the WL beds. We will be going there the first week of Dec. with our 4 year old daughter. Little ones can be quite active and accidents do happen::yes::

Sammie, ;) :), or was that sarcasm?

Absolutely not, I just think any piece of furniture can be dangerous and we all have to be careful with the children and watch them.

I also fell victim to the WL beds !

Oh the pain , When I got hom my Dh asked me how I had gotten all beat up when I was playing in Disney .

I thought I was unique in my inability to remember where the beds ended! I caught my shin on the bad boy at least once a day when we stayed there.

I never thought to blame the beds though, just my own clumsiness.

i'm not blaming the beds but there are some pieces of furniture that one has to be more careful around then others...especially with toddlers who tend to fall down alot. with the small space in the rooms i had to make sure that my son was extra careful as he like to run and play and didn't want to see him fall on the corner of the bed frame. also, there isn't much roaming room so that didn't help.

just wanted others especially with little ones to be aware.:D

Thanks for the warning, disneymouse. We are planning a visit for next spring and it's a good thing to know. The rooms are very small and I'm sure I'll hurt my toe at least once!

I'm a little concerned about my kids. They'll be 4 and almost 2. It's hard to watch them every single second. Maybe I'll check into some other resorts with more floor space.

Wow, I totally forgot about the painful encounters my whole family had with the WL beds (7 yrs ago) til this thread appeared! Haha...at least I can laugh about the forgotten memory now.::MickeyMo
