Somehow, The Marathon Returned - comments welcome!

Pulling my shorts back on and putting all the fuel back in the pockets was a not-fun process that made me feel like Ross from Friends. I decided then and there that I need to learn to run with a belt for races longer than a half marathon because dealing with the bathroom and stuff in my pockets is a pain.
Wisedom comes from experience ;)

Congratulations again on your first marathon, I'm so happy and proud of you :D It was great to finally meet you in person. See you in 3 weeks?

The posts remind me of a funny story. Some ppl at work gave me a sideeye after I told them my 2024 Disney marathon took 6:30. I replied by saying "Can YOU run for 6 and a half hours? Didn't think so." So yeah be proud of your 7:11 -> you persevered for over 7 hours and you finished. That's inspiring.

People can be annoying and I'm sorry this happened to you, but I love your response.

Someone at work once asked me if I won a race with 20k participants. When I replied yes they were shook until they realized I was being sarcastic. I hope they recognized how outlandish the question was.

My mom always asks "did you win?" I just reply "yes" now, because winning = finishing in my book.

I had a similar experience after my first marathon. I was at an unrelated party a week or so later and encountered a tall, thin, younger man who had also run that marathon. We compared times, of course. His response to my time was, "Wow, it's amazing that people can run for so long!" I really do think he meant it in a complimentary way, but definitely a backhanded compliment.

Simply to clarify, I didn't mean it as a backhanded compliment, being a slower runner myself. In the end we all ran the same 26.2 miles and we all deserve the same praise.

I've been doing short easy runs since starting running again. Today I decided to try a magic mile and see if my speed has improved. Lol, it has NOT. It was 10:52. My current mile PR is 10:30. I would really love to get under a ten minute mile. But, I am not fast. :(

Remember, you're a lot faster than everyone choosing to sit at home and do nothing 😁😁

I know Galloway likes to do a magic mile near the beginning of a training block, but I find that's when my fitness is absolute garbage and I can't do anything. 😝 After a few weeks of training, I bet you will be faster.

Also, today was gross out 🥵

Marathon training and mile training are very very different. If I tried to race a mile today, I'd probably be a minute slower than I was last spring. Not because I'm a worse runner but because I've been focusing on endurance which naturally means less speed training. Don't let this one benchmark get in your head.

You just ran a marathon a few weeks ago! I think you’re probably still recovering from that. I know I am!

(ps 10:52 is so fast! *cries in 12:20*)
You're both ahead of me as I haven't run a step since Dopey. I have done some yoga and stretching, a bit of strength training, a few walks and a whole LOT of snow shoveling and snow-blowing, but no running. I had a week of unexpected work travel right when I was set to pick back up and I clearly wasn't entirely recovered as I'm still feeling fatigued. Just trying not to get sick at this point!

So 10:52>12:20>20:00

So far, I’m still not sick. He started showing symptoms on Monday so I’m praying I’ve avoided it. I do feel sort of run-down but nothing else major. I went for a run yesterday and today so crossing fingers this continues!

My husband got sick the week before Marathon Weekend, so I’m over this. 😝

Me: I'm just gonna take the races easy!

Garmin: Your half marathon prediction time is 2:35:38.

Weather: It'll be in the 50s and cloudy during the half.

Me: HMMMMMMM.

(For the record, I am not going to actually attempt this because I've only run "fast" once since Marathon Weekend. BUT I could aim for 2:50. Or 2:45.

Unless of course, Clarabelle is FINALLY a character stop and then all bets are off.)

That Garmin Race predictor messes with my head lol. I'm like oh, you believe I can do this, but whats all this other talk about unproductive, to tired, rest day, rest for 58 hours, ect ect... but yeah you think under ideal conditions and training I can set a PR... OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK HERE WE GO!!! :)

Right? Their current 10k predictor is a little over 1:08. I put in 1:08 as a goal time for a 10k to generate a training plan, and they said "this might be too aggressive, do you want to change your time goal?" Um, you TOLD me it's almost possible with my current training which you are classifying as maintenance. :P
