Somebody PLEASE sell me on a Value Resort

if you do Pop - go by the pool bar. the lounge is nice. but the pool bar is :lmao:

First of all, I just want to say that I *LOVE* Animal Kingdom Lodge. We love it so much that we just plunked down $10,000 on 100 DVC Animal Kingdom Villas points so we can vacation there every other year!

I am sooooo jealous. Congratulations! Enjoy it. As much as I would love to, we just can't do it right now. When I did the math, there was just no way we could swing it while still paying for daycare.
I even tried to talk someone (anyone) in my family into sharing with us, but unfortunately I was the only one that got the Mickey gene.

Maybe a few years down the road... :goodvibes
Maybe I'll hit the lottery. Not a big one. Just enough for about 200 points. :goodvibes

I got a super deal on a concierge room at the Poly in Oct 2002. I felt I "needed" to stay there with my oldest child who was 3 1/2 as I was 6 months pregnant with baby #3. I left my DS home with my DH. I LOVED:love: the Poly. All 5 of us stayed there on our next 3 trips. I was scared to try any other resort. Between trips 2 & 3 to the Poly I took just my DS to ASMo. I was so afraid I would be unhappy there but I really enjoyed it.

I have since gone to Pop twice and POFQ twice. I really enjoy POP. I bet your DS would love it there. The bus service was outstanding and it just such a fun place.

We are booked at POR this summer as it is cheaper than 2 rooms at a value and frankly my DH wouldn't enjoy POP. He liked POFQ more than Poly. :confused3 ;) He really loved the lush landscaping and quiet atmosphere and forgetting that he was at Disney. I like the compact layout at Pop and the lively-very Disney atmosphere.

If you upgrade from value to mod you'd get a 2nd sink, a fridge & coffee maker (you can rent a fridge at Pop for $10/night), a privacy curtain by the vanity, hot tub, pool slide and TS restaurant.

Disney in December is very magical!

Not even a close call. We've stayed in value resorts (AS Music), moderate (Port Orleans), deluxe (WL, Polynesian, AKL) and now own DVC. We've absolutely enjoyed every place we have stayed, all for different reasons. You will NOT regret any chance to make family memories. Any time you can be within the magic of Disney, go for it.

Go for it! I look at vacations like restaurants -- you can have just as good a time sitting at a formica table having a fantastic slice of pizza and drinking soda out of a paper cup as you can having lobster and wine with table linens.

They're totally different experiences, no need to compare them, but just enjoy them for what they are. It's the company that matters.

A young kid is going to get a kick out of Pop -- it will be like staying inside one of the play areas in the park. Giant Big Wheel? Giant Mickey Mouse Phone? Cool!

Even as an adult they make me smile.

as many other posters have said, you will certainly have a great time regardless of where you stay..its DISNEY!

however, i must play devil's advocate here and share this: My friend (travelling with her husband and 2 daughters ( ages 14 mos and 5)...just went for 10 days and stayed at the Values ( AS sports i think). She hated it. She previously has stayed at AKL and said that there was no way after this that she would ever go back to a value. She said it felt like a motel, and was wishing she was at a moderate/deluxe the whole time.

Not starting trouble, just giving another, truthful account..albeit not my own personal one..i stayed at Sports a long time ago and it was fine for a Go go go trip..but i dont' think i would ever stay there again.

For what my totally newbie opinion is worth I agree with the other people who said staying at value was better than not going at all. I have only been to Disney World 3 times with the first being a day trip in 1989 and then 2times last year(after I caught the mouse bug ;) ). The first time in Feb.2006 my husband and I went with a group of 5 couples for a "business" trip and stayed at the Contemporary and the second time I wanted really badly to take kids and my parents and we stayed at the ASMu. From my limited knowledge they were both great places to stay. Truthfully I liked the care we were given at the ASMu better than at the Contemporary. I am hoping to get a chance to stay other places as well but we are already going back to the ASMu in Sept. because we loved it so much. The pool is beautiful and although we had to walk more it was well worth it. If you stay at a Value resort you won't be in your room much any how and you shouldn't let those 4 leftover tickets go to waste. ;)

Read the threads ofn POR! It is a Mod resort but pricing is very good and the resort is great! Much better than the value resorts (pools , slides, hot tubs, sit down rest. table service etc) and the pricing is not much more.
