DH is leaving tomorrow afternoon on his first plane ride in well over a year, and it's got me worried sick. And I'm not usually much of a worrier! :rolleyes: Loved ones on planes have made me nervous for a long time, but this is the first time since 9/11, and my nervousness is heightened. I know in my head it's safe, but could somebody tell me again? And thanks in advance if you have the patience to reason with a numbskull. :teeth:

we can home last September, from Disney, the night before 9/11...I was scared to death in april....we went to disney....took our whole family....well part of it....there was eight of us...I had to get it out of my head about bad thoughts....my husband and I are going again in three weeks and I am starting to stress again.....but I know this is the only way to go to disney for us....other wise it would be a 25 hour drive....to much for us...so yes we are safer in the air....and you and your husband and us and the millions of others are safe....YES WE ARE.....hugs to you
and my nephew died in a car accident a few years back...he was just 21....and you know we all get in a car and travel each and every day....again ...take care

I flew last November. I was a petrified flyer before 9/11, but the sight of the National Guard in the airports, the attitude of the passengers, and the screening I saw being done all reassured me. I don't think any airplane full of passengers is going to sit still should any terrorists decide to try to pull this again.

I felt much safer flying in November than I ever had before.

All I can say to reassure you is that my dad has flown too many times to count in the last year and about 5 or so being international flights as well. Actually next Saturday he is going to Lithuania and somewhere else in Europe (for buisness). I feel so much safer with him flying than him driving (and there is no way he could drive to Lithuania anyway ;)) But he's been doing this tons since 1985 and I worry like crazy when he travels but I must admit I feel flying is just as safe as it was over a year ago.

Oh and I've made one trip via plane in the last two years (not by choice honestly) and the only thing I was nervous about was meeting the people I was going to at the airport. I know it is hard to relax when loved ones travel but I am sure all will be fine for your DH :)

As LucyStorm has already mentioned, I felt safer flying in February than I ever had!

Ofcourse I was checking each and every passenger out as we were boarding, but I still felt safe, and I hope to be flying again in January to WDW!

It is safe to fly. Don't worry about any more attacks. Everyone on that plane with you are worrying about the same thing, so they will help out if something happens.

I'm nervous too (flew 3 times since 9-11). But I'm more worried about the plane maintenance history. I got scared when that plane just break apart and fell. :(

Here is a link to a speech given in 1997 that puts the whole issue of "fear of flying" into a unique perspective.

you would have to take one flight a day for 19 thousand years before dying in an airline accident

The speech goes on to try to give a rational explanation for the public's fear of flying. You are not alone in your concerns. But realize that you are more likely to die from just about any other cause than from getting on an airplane. That doesn't mean that it's impossible. Just improbable.

We've been to WDW twice since 9/11--on our first flight in December I was nervous and figures, lots of turbulence, didn't help me any. We have two flights each way so we've been on 8 flights!! I always pray on takeoff and landing, which is the worst part for me.

Luara, he will be fine. I am very confident that flying, safe and sound as it was before 9/11, is even more so now. I have had 3 trips to WDW since 9/11, the first a week after it. That flight was a bit apprehensive, what with the WTC still smoking and still not really totally aware of all that went on, but really, all trips were fine. Rest well, Laura. {{Hugs}}

Now, what about you guys going to WDW next year??? Are we planning yet???? :earsgirl: :bounce:

I've flown 3 times since 9/11. My son flew to Moscow over the summer. I'm sure he will be fine. {{{HUGS}}} sweetie, try not to worry.

*huggles and PD*It's ok,Laura,to be nervous.My husband(who'd been planning our last WDW trip since Dec)was almost afraid to fly back in Feb and nearly canceled the whole thing.BUT the sight of all those national guardsman and the screening reassured both of us that it would be ok.Besidees...if you let yourself be scared of getting on an airplane,then the terrorists have won.:( Don't worry..if the screeners see anything suspicious,they look at it.Even if it's just a glass of soda!No lie...while at the Orlando airport,we passed through security and I was carrying a cup of soda from one of the resteraunts on the outside portion of the airport.As I put my bag through the screener,I stepped through the metal detector and carried my soda with me.I didn't set off the detector but they DID take my soda away for a few minutes to make sure it was really a soda and not some kind of liquid explosive!:p

We flew home from Disneyland on 9/10. When we flew to WDW in May, I was terrified! But, once I got to the airport and saw all the security and screenings they were doing, I felt a lot better. :D I think flying is much safer now than ever. PD to you.

You guys are the best. :) I feel much better now, thanks to you all. And no one even called me a weinie. :teeth:

Dan, when/if/one day soon I get there, I plan to pack up my little Ford and drive! Now you can call me a weinie!! :p

Hi Laura! Hope your DH has a safe flight and you have calm nerves! :)

Take care ~

Your Dh will be fine. I've flown 4 times since last September, and each time I was very impressed with the airport employees and the security in general. Relax:)

My son just landed safe and sound this morning in Amsterdam.

We flew to WDW this past June and had no problems.

I'm going through the same thing. I'm supposed to fly next Friday for a 4 day trip to McAllen, Texas to visit my mom's best friend and her husband (who happen to be my godparents as well.)

I have been LESS worried about air travel since 9/11 than before! I feel the security measures are VERY good in most of the airports I have been in since then. A few of them are suspect, but most are fabulous!

Laura, he'll be fine. {{{hugs}}}

I have flown 4 times since 911 and each time I expereince better security. DH will be fine and home to you in no time.:D
