Sorry to say but that picture is beyond saving. The problem with overexposed images is that the camera only recorded solid white for all of the overexposed areas (such as the girls faces and arms) so amount of adjustment will make those areas anything other than white. Certainly the background could be made darker but the girls will always be blown out.

Now, i'm no photoshop wizard, only been playing with it for a few weeks... but I doubt you'd be able to get it much "better" then this. however, i'm sure someone can probably do a little better :)

It won't be perfect, but might be a little better. I use Photoshop Elements 3.

Load in your picture. You will have to have the layer palette visible. Create a duplicate layer. In the palette you will see "background copy" and under that "background".

Click on "background copy"

You will see a box called normal with a dropdown arrow.

Click on the arrow, then click on multiply.

After that just keep creating duplicate layers to the point you have the exposure you want.

You will get improvement, but not to the point you want. The picture is too overexposed.

You did a nice job of getting better color in the girls for me, thank you...I knew when I took the picture it was gonna be an issue...we were in line to get our Christmas group photo done when I snapped this and had to move on...I sooo wish I could've taken more.

I always snap four to five shots to make sure I get at least one that I'll be happy with. For anyone who's been on the Magic, this was taken in the corridor just off the lobby, there's no room for me to back up and my flash on my olympus is rediculously strong when it needn't be...this was one of those times I wish I'd had a better camera :(

Manning...

I have adobe photoshop business deluxe...it works pretty well for what I usually use it for but it did absolutely nothing to help me get this one "back"

I tried...but you almost have to reconstruct the young lady on the right. And as you get the image darker, all kinds of artifacts start appearing.

I tried a variety of things in Photoshop...blurring, sharpening, sponging, blending ... I don't even remember what I used.

Ok here was my shot at it. I know going this way you lose the beautiful colors of the dresses and drapes but I think you can see the features of the young lady on the right a little better. I was having trouble getting a better sepia color. Maybe someone else can try.

I still lose a lot of quality, but can darken it quite a bit without making it too 'unrealistic'.

Slightly different method:

Even though it's not quite as dark, I like the even colors on this one better.

jfulcer - Wow! These really are big changes. I tried myself with Elements 4.0 and you did a beautiful job. When I get a photo like this I usually end up using a special effect like posterize but you kept on working and the result is very impressive. I've got to learn more about Elements to catch up with you guys!

Yay!!!! :thumbsup2

thank you Jeff!

and everybody!!!

I originally printed this "posturized" and made it surrealistically pretty...

I like the new ones better~now I can print something nice for the girls :scratchin maybe for Christmas ;)

Thank you :worship:

OK, I just scrolled down and almost blew hot coffee out of my nose. :rotfl2:

I know the OP had a serious request, but this is why I come to this board almost daily... entertainment. :lmao:

Thanks for the kudos. I do admit that I cheated a little bit by emailing the OP and asking for the full resolution version. Working with that make a world a difference in how it turned out. The original posted on the board was too compressed to be able to do much photo processing on it.
