I have a few very basic questions. Do you need to have ap when making reservation or do you show it at check in?

Can I buy this online?

Has anyone bought an ap just for the room discount?

Is there an easy " Mickey math" formula I can use to see if this would work for us?

Any tips at all would be great! I am pretty clueless on this subject.:confused3

I meant to post this on codes/ discount page. Oops. If anyone can move it please go ahead

You don't have to have the AP to book under the discount. The front desk will sometimes ask that you bring the AP to verify within 24 hours of check-in (so you can get your AP when you get there).

The only Mickey math you have to do is find the difference in cost between the MYW ticket you were going to get and the cost of the AP and then see if the discount on the room would surpass it. Don't forget, you get merchandise discounts with an AP and are eligible to buy a Tables in Wonderland card for dining.

Never buy an AP for just the room discount. The room discount is only about 5% more than the special offer discount that is available to all. And usually when there is an AP discount, there is also a general public discount. Not all rooms/resorts/categories may get a discount. If we can't jusify the cost of the AP with amount of time we go to Disney in a 12 month period, then we won't get an AP. The room discounts and shoppings discounts are just extras and not to be counted on. In fact for our last trip, I booked the room without a discount. The general public discount came out 2 days after I booked - I called and got that lower price. The next day the AP holders discount came out - I called again and got that price.

I agree with everything here. Buying an AP solely for a room discount is usually not a good idea. As this posted stated, discounts are never guaranteed and not all resorts/room types are offered with an AP discount.

I agree - never buy an AP because you are interested in a particular benefit. Benefits can be added or subtracted by Disney at any time. You could buy the AP and Disney could announce no more AP discounts (it happens - I used to qualify for many types of room discounts that have been discontinued :().

You should buy an AP because it's the best value for your park admission, and for no other reason. Any benefit you get above and beyond that is just icing on the cake.

I also agree. Especially now. Can't even access the AP site with the new AP pass. Bounce back offers seem to be the best.
