Some quick ?s about Poly studios

I know there are a lot of studio/vs standard room questions and I have read many of them, but I am still struggling with our choice and have a few questions. We are looking at Poly for a party of 5 (mom, dad, 15yo, 12yo, 7yo.) We will be going for the half Marathon in January for a 10 day stay (15yo and mom running the half.)

Right now a studio would cost only $100 more for the entire stay. No discounts have been released yet. We would very much like a discount of some sort at some point.

Assuming that discounts are released and the price for a studio vs standard room stays relatively the same, I am leaning toward a studio. My BIGGEST concern is feeling cramped in it. I am not so concerned about sleeping space, because we tend to always take a narrow tween-sized air bed with us when we travel. Everyone will have a place to sleep. The things I am drawn to are the second shower (would get us to parks SO much faster in the morning) and the possibility that during the day when beds aren't pulled out, it would feel more spacious than a standard room.

Questions I have:

1. I saw in a thread somewhere that the studios have access to a free laundry room. Is this correct? This might make a difference for us on a long stay in cooler temps. I'm assuming there is are pay-for-load laundry rooms for standard room guests?

2. Is the coffee maker a drip coffee maker, or a pod one?

3. For daytime use with all beds folded up, which would feel more spacious? A studio or a standard room?

4. I read in a thread or two but couldn't not find confirmation that all studios are guaranteed a balcony or patio. Is this correct?

Thanks for any help you can offer. We would rather stay at VWL on a long stay like this but we don't want to return to WL until the construction is complete. I'm also considering a 1 bedroom at Old Key West but it seems so far away from the action.

FWIW, I had a studio booked yesterday then switched to a standard last night. Now I'm thinking I should switch back.

Also, is there a chance that a discount won't be offered at all? We're going Jan 4-14. I have never booked a room without a discount before but I have also never gone in January (unless I'm renting DVC points.)

We had 5 adults in the studio (we also had a 2nd floor with balcony in Pago Pago) I found the sleeping and bathroom situation to be really great. With beds folded up you get a sofa and room to move around the balcony gave us a lot of extra space too. The coffee maker is not quite a pod but a flat circle of coffee. With your group it should be fine. (the next year we stayed at AOA suites and it was really roomy!)

The laundry room for the studios is located in Moorea. You'll need your magic band or a room key to get into the laundry room. It is free for all studio guests.
The coffee maker is a Mr Coffee type, flat bottom basket style filters are needed. You'll get at least one packet of prefiltered coffee each service day. They make about 4-6 cups each. If you want more than that, you probably can ask Housekeeping for more IF you paid cash through Disney Reservation Center. If you booked through DVC, you'll need to bring more - you don't get freebies with DVC (it's a timeshare).
If you close up the murphy bed and the sleeper sofa, you should have a bit more room than if you have two queen beds in the room. But with all the beds opened up, it will seem tighter.
All studios at Polynesian have either a balcony or a patio.
You'll have two showers, but only one toilet.
As for discounts, I don't think they discount the Polynesian villas.

If you're paying cash for the studios and are not DVC, what does that mean in terms of free laundry?

Thanks, Deb. That is super helpful info.

I just checked and the PVB studios are included in the current room-only promotions, so I will keep my fingers crossed. I think I'd prefer the open feel of the standard rooms, but I think the second shower and the balcony/patio are deal-makers.

Ok, great, thank you. That's an added perk of staying in the studio.

We have stayed in both this year. The studio feels a bit smaller, but the extra shower, sink, and mirror is fantastic. There is also a small sink above the mini refrigerator and below the microwave. We had a cash reservation and used the free laundry facility. We just purchased detergent and dryer sheets.

I asked my daughters which type of room they preferred most after the second trip. They both liked the studio better. The rain shower was amazing!!
