So.... I want to lose weight, I have a membership at the gym, I can get there easily... But, I just can't get motivated! I keep procrastinating! What's wrong with me? How can I fix this? Just force myself to work out? I think that's what I'll do...

Also, I don't really understand how the Easter Challenge and monthly excercise challenges work... Could someone explain the challenges on here to me?

TIA!

very easy :) if you find a friendly challenge that interests you, just post that you'd like to join in and consider yourself a part of it! that simple, we are here to support each other and the challenges are a way to do that. there is no requirement just to chat and encourage each other. :welcome:

At first, excercise will probably just be something you "make" yourself do. After a while (2nd week of daily exercise for me), the endorphins start kicking in. I go and exercise and my body releases chemicals that make me feel good. The more I exercise (and for me that's walking on the treadmill at least 60 minutes per day plus walking to/from work for another 12 minutes), the better I feel. Now, I WANT to go exercise so I can get that feeling... happens about 10 to 15 minutes into my workout.

You do have to schedule time for you. Do it. Fit it into your schedule to go to the gym and just start at it.

If you get into a routine of exercising and trying to make healthier eating choices, soon you will start to see results and maybe find it easier to get to doing it all.

Take small steps at making this work and give yourself a way to be successful. Small goals. You can do this if you want it. Want it! Make it happen.

Let me know how your first day went.

I'm sorry, but could you explain how the monthly excercise and easter challenge work? I don't understand what to do. I mean, I understand that with the monthly excercise challenge, you choose the number of minutes you'll excercise for that month, but how do you decide that? The easter challenge is confusing, could you explain what it is, please?

Sorry for any inconvenience! TIA!

Picking goals for the challenges...

I just started all this challenge stuff. For the exercise challenge, it seemed like 1000 was the highest anyone was picking. 1000 minutes over an average 30 day month is slightly over 33 minutes per day... I figured I could commit to that. Fortunately, I no longer commute 90 minutes a day so I've been able to do 75-90 minutes of cardio a day. Already reached and busted my goal... I'll do higher next month.

Five for January Challenge... I'm just starting and have a LOT to lose, so I figured I could easily lose 5 in water so I picked 10... As of last Monday, I've lost 10.4... but the first two weeks are usually my fastest.

For the Easter Challenge... since I still have a LOT to lose, I picked 20 for the 12 weeks... I knew I could average more than a pound a week but I also built a little plateau room... I've lost 6 of the 20.... If it was later in my diet, I would have gone for fewer pounds.

It's all just a guess actually... pick as reasonable number based on how long you've been exercising and dieting and how much you have to lose. Go for it!:yay:

I'll jump in for the monthly exercise answer.
I understand that with the monthly excercise challenge, you choose the number of minutes you'll excercise for that month, but how do you decide that?
The idea is to help and share accountability. Sometimes our success is enhanced when we can set a goal and tell someone how we are progressing.

Weight loss is basic calories in must be less than calories out. Muscles help to more efficiently provide nutrition to our bodies. Movement improves our overall strength and well being.

The idea is to move more and eat less or healthier. So, you pick what you think you have time to do and try to achieve that. Some find that getting started with just a few minutes a day is all they can manage. You know your schedule so you pick what you can fit into that. You can literally measure success using before/after tape measurements and/or that dreaded scale.

Does this help answer your question?

Anyone is welcome to join in on any of the threads and they are there to challenge us in a fun and friendly environment.

I'm not certain what is going on for the Easter challenge so anyone else here that can help?

ETA: Looks like someone was posting same time as I was. Thanks for your info too!
