Some questions re making dining reservations

So, I've been to disney a ton, but this time have some different situations than I'm used to - one, I'm going with a large group of 14 who can't seem to get their act together re where we want to stay no matter how hard I try to convince them (we are doing the 1/2 marathon together and wanted to stay at the same resort - but our first place is booked for DVC so we are arguing bc of cost); and second, bc of the first I dont have a reservation yet, which believe you me, is stressing me out to no end!

So I have a couple of questions bc these are things I haven't dealt with before.

first, do I have to have a resort reservation to make dining reservations 180 days out-and if I do, does it have to be a disney resort or can it be swan dolphin? and can I do it online, on phone or neither?

Second, can you make a dining reservation for 14 online or by phone? If not, how do you suggest I do it? thanks for helping a stressed out disney planning fanatic not able to do what she does best!!

I don't think you need a resort reservation to make a dining reservation 180 days out ... I believe you do need one if you want to do the 180+10.

For 14 people, I would definitely call for reservations!

You will need to call the Grand Gatherings line to do your ADRs.
