We pulled up under the front entrance of the Polynesian, and were immediately greeted by a valet who assisted with our luggage. We let him know that we were concierge guests, and he called the concierge. A moment later he came back and let us know that he had good news and bad news. The good news was that our room was waiting for us, the bad news was that we would need to wait a few moments for someone from bell services to be available to escort us back to the Hawaii building. Not a problem. A very few minutes later we were loaded up onto a golf cart and driven back to Hawaii. We were taken directly to our room, where we had a chance to settle in before going to the concierge desk and checking in. The room was very spacious. We had requested, and were given room 1505, which had a PERFECT view of the castle. (Thanks Tikiman for the tip!!) I have a very sensitive nose, and didn't smell anything bad in the room at all. One complaint about this room was there simply wasn't enough "shelf" space in the tub to hold our assorted shampoos and such. Be aware that there is no split bathroom in this room either, so if you have a larger group, it could make mornings really tough.

The amenities included Mickey style soaps, shampoos, lotions, a toothbrush, and toothpaste. I grabbed all but the hand soap up and stashed it away. (I save all the soaps and such from hotels, especially the Mickey ones from WDW and "upscale" ones from nice resorts and donate them to a battered woman and children's shelter.) There was an empty mini-fridge that had obviously at one time been the mini-bar, as well as a hairdryer, iron and board. The room had two queen beds, a large daybed, and a table with two chairs. DS decided that he would rather sleep on the daybed than the queen bed. He said the mattress was more comfortable.

DS wanted to go out and play on the beach/in the pool, and DH and I decided to head over to the MK for a little while. We grabbed Fast Passes for Buzz Lightyear, then went on Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion. We were headed back over to Buzz, when all of a sudden the sky lit up with a crack. The lightning started, and we headed for cover. We assumed (wrongly) that it would be over in 10-15 minutes. Almost an hour later we were able to safely leave, although it was still raining. It stopped right about the time we got to the Polynesian. We found DS with a lot of others in the concierge lounge watching TV and eating snacks. The concierge staff was really wonderful. They were extremely pleasant, and greeted us without fail, even if it was just to look up and smile if they were involved with another guest. A big plus was that they have the bottled Dasani water in the lounge, and encourage you to take some with you to the parks. Also, unlike all of the other concierge lounges that I've experienced at WDW, they had soda clearly out and iced. You didn't need to request it.

One thing to be aware of, is that kids seem to love to run up and down the halls in this resort, and it sounds like thunder in your room. If it's several older kids, it literally makes the floor shake. They really need to do some serious soundproofing during the rehab. A small amount of noise from the hallways is to be expected, but it was more like a rampaging herd of wildebeasts morning, noon, and into the fairly late night. One evening my DH actually stuck his head out the door and told two particularly obnoxious kids to stop running and yelling in the halls.

Breakfast in the concierge lounge was very good, and very much like the one at the AKL, with creamy hot oatmeal as well as a wide variety of pastries, donuts, bagels, toast, etc. One of our three mornings it was rather crowded, and we took the last table downstairs, but I'm pretty sure there were still at least three tables empty upstairs.

Thursday afternoon I spent sitting in a swinging chair on the beach reading, which was wonderful, until the rain came. At first it was just sprinkles, and I moved onto my patio, then the deluge began and I had to go inside.

On our last night we ran into a bit of a problem, we had been at MGM all day, and had gotten very hot and sticky, so we headed back to the room to shower before we went to dinner at Jiko. We all showered, and left for dinner at about 5:30pm. When we returned at about 10:15, the room hadn't been turned down. I can certainly pull down my own spread, but it left us in a pickle, because now we had no clean towels for the morning. The concierge had already left for the evening, so I called housekeeping. First she told me I must have had the Do not disturb sign out. I told her that it hadn't been. Then she told me to call the concierge. I told them the concierge was closed, and that I just needed towels. She got huffy with me and said she would send them. Half an hour later (we had to get up early in the morning, and I wanted to go to bed, so I wasn't very happy at this point) I still didn't have my towels. I called again. The same girl answered the phone, and got downright nasty with me. She SNARLED "You only called a few minutes ago, you'll get them when they get there." Not a very nice way to end the trip. I regret not having gotten her name, as I would certainly have written a complaint. I DID tell the concierge the next morning, who apologized profusely. Now, one other thing, SOMEONE from the concierge had been in our room after we had left for dinner, as they had left a little gift. So someplace along the line someone dropped the ball on the turndown service. It's not a deal breaker, but it wasn't the most pleasant end to the trip.

One other minor complaint, we called for baggage assistance on Saturday morning. After waiting for ten minutes, someone called us and asked if we had called for assistance, and were we ready to leave. Uh, yeah. After another five plus minutes, someone finally came. This made us late in meeting our limo to the Port.

Some final comments… In all honesty, one of the the biggest selling points for me was the beach right outside our room, and of course the castle view. The room was clean and comfortable. The concierge lounge was nice, although I prefer the one at the AKL in terms of décor and food, except for the soda/water issue as stated above. The concierge staff was very nice. I would stay here again, and could certainly recommend it to others.

I didnt realize we would be there at the same time. It would have been nice to meet you!
We werent in conciege, but had the Tokelau building. We checked in Friday and out Saturday. We absolutely love it there and I created another Poly fan by bringing my neice there. She came home and told her parents she wants to go again but spend the whole week at the Poly. Our biggest disappointment there was they didnt do the Torch Lighting ceremony Friday night as scheduled. I guess it was cancelled Thursday because of rain, but it wasnt raining at 6:00 on Friday. We were out there waiting and no CM could give us an answer as to whether it was going to happen or not. It also stunk that the pool was closed for most of Fri afternoon since our whole plan was to swim then. But obviously it was for safety reason so we cant complain. We still loved every minute there!
Glad you had a perfect(almost) stay there too. :)

Welcome home. Did you keep our room in good shape. Glad you got it. It does have a great view.

Oh my! I wish we had known..ah well, something to look forward to next time!

We didn't see the torch lighting ceremony either. but we did swim on Friday afternoon...I definitely swam for about an hour in the quiet pool from about 3:00 to 4:00ish, and DS and DH swam in the theme pool from about 4:00 to about 5:30.

Im not sure of the time but we got to the volcano pool about 10 minutes before that big black cloud came rolling in and they cleared everyone out and closed it. It was probably a little earlier than when you were swimming. Then we waited and even when the rain stopped DH went back and checked and they said they had to wait until the storm was 5 miles away or something like that. I know around 3:45ish when I had to start getting ready for dinner the pool was back open again. I jumped in the shower and DH & the kids went to the pool. They came right back again because they said it was closed again. Maybe they should have gone to the quiet pool(but it wouldnt have been too quiet then;) )
We must have just missed the pool opening and just missed you too! Bummer! :D

It sounds like an awesome trip to me. I am so looking forward to our upcoming trip. 15 minutes doesn't seem excessive to me for baggage assistance - but maybe I'm just used to Lowe's hotel amenities (dogs come to mind).

You know what... we were supposed to have turn-down service there too and we only got it one of seven nights. But, the night they did it they left the biggest rose I have ever seen on our pillow (in a vase). Of course, this was our last night and I knew I couldn't get home with my rose, so I left it in the room along with my rose from V&A's.

15 minutes isn't a lot of time unless you're going to the airport or Port. I know people always allow extra time for travel time to and from airports, etc... but it's nervewracking when you've called and no one responds and you know the limo is waiting... I'm sure the limo was not going to leave without you, but still knowing they were waiting and you are also waiting stresses you out!!!

I personally would much rather get to the airport a little early, than cutting it close like they made you do..you never know what traffic is going to be like, etc.

They're probably used to guests calling down and when they get up to the room, the guests still aren't ready... but when you call and say you're ready, that should have given them the first clue!!!

AND that girl from Housekeeping??? Well, if she had done that to me--- I'd be down there POUNDING on the door. Did she bring the towels up, or did she chicken out and have someone else do it?? Maybe they were on break?? How are you supposed to know that?? Maybe she was not feeling well, How are you supposed to know that?? but there is NO EXCUSE for her behavior!!

I'm going at Thanksgiving, I'll let you know if the girl with the rude attitude is still working in housekeeping!!

The problem was that when we called, they said they'd be right there, and then called us more than ten minutes later to see if we had called for baggage assistance. There was obviously quite a bit of confusion going on. All in all we waited for over twenty minutes, which would have bene fine had they told us that there would be a wait to begin with. Instead, they told us they'd be right there, and weren't.

Anne,

We were just at the Poly Concierge too. I understand your frustration over baggage. We switched rooms immediately after checking in and the concierge (after some room confusion and about a 1/2 hour of time) accidentally put us in a dirty room. They promised to send housekeeping ASAP and said our luggage would be in the room when we returned.

To make a really long story short, we came back after exploring the hotel for an hour to find housekeeping just finishing the room, and our luggage no where in site. DH called the Concierge staff but no one answered so he left a message. 15 minutes later they called back and said, "are you sure it's not in the closet?". Uhm...no, I think I would have noticed that. Another 15 minutes went by then baggage called to see if we were supposed to get our baggage! Another 15 mintutes passed and we finally had it. Very irritating when you have 2 children that are desperately wanting to swim, lol!

WHAT!? They serve Dasani in the concierge lounge instead of that awful Zephyr Hills stuff?! Man, my family could well drink enough water to make up for the price differential between non-concierge and concierge!

As for luggage assistance, it is frustrating to wait. We've not had a problem at the Polynesian, but did have to wait more than 30 minutes at the GF on our check-out day. The guy in the litttle trolley / cart caught us on the sidewalk dragging our luggage to the main building.

Thanks for the nice report.

Just wanted to say that the rude person from housekeeping may have actually been at the front desk. Over many years and many calls to housekeeping, they've always been prompt and courteous. The one exception was a couple of years ago when I dealt with someone with a major attitude...she called back and at that point revealed she was at the front desk (office, I assume). I had dialed housekeeping but it must roll over to the front desk at times. Not that this young lady was typical of the front desk either.

Sounds like a great trip!

Anne, I hear you loud and clear. We just returned from 10 nights in Hawaii (were in 1533) and I could not fall asleep until well after midnight each night due to kids running in and out of the concierge lounge on the 2nd floor (even woke up my 1 and 5 year olds from time to time). As an airline pilot I sleep in hotels every week, and never have a problem sleeping. This was ridiculous! We spent a week in room 1521 in April of this year, I don't recall it being as bad. I would be apprehensive in returning.

When did the dansani water arrive? Did you have to ask for it? We saw some perrier out But its (IMHO) horrible. There was absolutely NO dansani water in july at the poly concerige, so this is something new. I would think it might even infrige on the zeffrillis springs contract? (so we better keep it quiet). ;)

I love Perrier water. ;) Used to hate the taste, though. I guess it's something you need to aquire. :)

ducklite, Thanks for the great report! :)

About the Dasani... When did Dasani start being the water served in the parks and resorts? Last year, I thought it was Zepher Hills, and this year I've been served ZH only once. I know Dasani is a Coke product and ZH a Perrier product. I prefer ZH, because it is spring water. Anybody know if they are doing away with ZH entirely at the parks and resorts?

I saw all ZH at WDW when I was there in July - I always buy Dasani here at home when I buy regular bottled water, so I would have probably drank a lot more water at WDW if I would have seen it. :)

Hi! All I saw in August was pretty much Dasani. Only once outside ToT, was I served a bottle of Dasani and a bottle of ZH. Perhaps they knew you were planning an October trip, because they're stocked up on the Dasani now. ;) ;)
