Hi everyone.....Is the pool always crowded? Is the resort and beaches, food places always crowded? Is there a lot of traffic at the Poly? We have never even visited the Poly, just trying to figure out what to expect when we stay there the week of Labor Day. I just don't want to build up this great image in my head and then be like WOW this is not what I expected.

we went over spring break...quiet pool did not get crowded. main pool was crowded but still manageable. beach was never crowded.

it was busy but didnt impact our time..no issues. most people hit the parks..pool starts gettting crowded after lunch until dinner.

We've stayed at Poly the week of Labor Day - the earlier you get to the pool, the less crowded it will be and you will have more of a chance of finding chairs with an umbrella. Shade is at a premium at the main pool and it will be VERY hot as the day goes by. You may have more luck at the quiet pool. The resort, itself, and beach never felt crowded, but the QS, Capt. Cook's seemed to always be in chaos. They do not have a very streamlined ordering and picking-up process, IMHO. It is a beautiful resort and we enjoyed our stay!

I always find the Great Ceremonial House to be fairly crowded due to Ohanas. But the rest of the resort has never been very crowded on our stays. The main pool can get a little crowded in the summer, but the Oasis pool was rarely crowded. I've only seen the beach a little crowded during the fireworks once. All other times we were some of the only people on the beach.

Agree with above posters, the main pool can be quite crowded.

We like the quiet pool better and found it much less crowded.

The Tambu Tambu lounge can be quite busy as Ohana's is busy, the rest of the Ceremonial House is not busy.

Stayed for 7 nights at Poly last August. We loved it-the location can't be beat. The pools were the only part of the resort that disappointed us. The main pool is so crowded. There were no chairs available and they are just jammed all over the deck. The pool itself is way over crowded and there was barley room to move. The quiet pool was a little better. Still no chairs, but the pool itself was less crowded.

Captain Cook's was crowded. Ordering was not a problem, but finding a table was challenging. The beach area was fine, no issues even during fireworks. There are lots of non-resort guests in the evening. Have a great time!!!

We stayed at the Poly in September and again in February. The quiet pool was lovely and not at all crowded. There were plenty of lounge chairs and many tables and chairs in the bar/QS area of that pool. The bag check to get on the monorail gets a little backed up in the morning bc of Ohana. It is a lovely resort.

I'm getting nervous about the description of the Oasis Pool as the "quiet pool". We will be there in 3 weeks with 4 grandkids who are anything but quiet. They will likely spend more time at Oasis because of their age and swimming abilities. Is there really an expectation to be quiet there?

Also to the OP, you might consider booking a "Poolside Patio" at the Oasis pool. We have booked one on several days that we anticipate returning to the resort in early afternoon in order to guarantee shade, especially for the baby in the group. Unfortunately half-days do not begin until 3:00 and we'll be back earlier so we had to reserve full days. But compared to fancy cabanas, the price is very reasonable (though with no amenities like a refrigerator, etc.) It can be reserved up to 180 days in advance and cancelled at 24 hours in advance so if you are at all considering it, I'd book now and cancel later if needed, especially for a busy holiday week.

I would book that in a heartbeat. The cabanas at teh GF are exorbitantly priced.

I agree! I might do a cabana at GF one day for a total splurge resort day for just husband and myself. But looking for multiple days of shade for a family - the poolside patios seem like a great option - one of the tipping points for us of Poly over GF.

Zero expectation to be quiet. Disney does not refer to them as quiet pools, they call them leisure pools. And they're referred as that because there are no organized games or activities like at the Main Feature Pool.

Food areas get a little crowded during "normal" lunch and dinner times. The earlier the better for the main pool. My family would take park breaks and come back and swim at the Quiet Pool each day. It was never crowded and the kids had the pool pretty much to themselves. You will LOVE Poly!Be sure to have the Dole Whip! You will want it daily if you are like me!!!

All the pools tend to be busy during the warmer months, especially in the afternoon.

Is the main pool accessible with magic band? I’ve read the Oasis pool is magic band only. I’ve also seen a lot of talk about the main pool being very crowded. Just wondering if anyone can get in although if they aren’t staying there? I would hope they couldn’t!

We went during Labor Day week and while construction was still going on. So even with one pool down, I never felt the pool area was crowded. The area near Ohana is usually pretty busy, but other than that, I never felt overwhelmed or crowded anywhere on the resort.

It is possible to follow someone in that has a magic band but I don't think that happens often.

Yes, both pools use magic bands for entry.

Every time Ive been, the main pool area has been crowded. Not wall to wall, but all loungers have been taken except maybe one here and one there. Definately not 2 together unless you are there prior to 11am. Tables/chairs with umbrella go first. You really need to be out there prior to 9am to get one of those.

Captain Cook is crowded 8am until dinner time. They are open 24/7, so around dinner and through the night it is not crowded.

Lobby area downstairs seems quite crowded from about 10am through 10pm. 10:00am guests start arriving early and if there room is not ready, families often sit on the sofas waiting around, with their luggage! Upstairs the strollers start lining up at Ohana for breakfast..the lounge area if quite full until 10:30am. Lunch time, most are at Captain Cooks or the pool, Starting at 4, people start coming in from the parks going to Trader Sams, Tambu Lounge and Ohana wait area for dinner. Guests also start flowing in for the Spirit of Aloha show. The show is twice nightly 5 days a week (could be 6..but I know there is at least one night off..I think Monday??) so the guests for the late show visit the lobby, shops, look around the pool, beach while waiting to go down to Luau Cove. After the early show gets out, most walk around the property too.

Ive never seen more than a handful of people at the beach. People talk about watching the fireworksfrom the beach all the time on Dis...but when it actually comes time during the trip, they are either too tired of forget about it because by the way people talk on these threads, you would think hundreds of people are on the beach. Its far from the case.

Since the GF alligator incident, they have removed a great deal of seating on the beach and I think more people are cautious of getting close to the lagoon. Although I only saw a handful of people before, during my last trip I saw none (I stayed at YC, but went to the SoA)

In 2015 I stayed there over Labor Day. It was the final straw for me. I LOVE the rooms, LOVE the theme, but the constant people and strollers in all the common areas felt like I was still in the parks. The LONG waits for the monorail and leaving the MK on the resort monorail was horrible...very unconvenient. No peace or relaxing there. During that trip, we took the monorail over to CR to get an ice cream, as Captain Cooks was packed. It was at that moment I realized there are better choices than the Poly. It was so peaceful at the Contemporary during the day, the pool as all but abandoned. Just a few shoppers in each of the stores and no wait at Contempo. My next trip I stayed at YC. It was quiet. Didnt have to worry about broken or delayed monorails. Everything was perfect. Location to Epcot, strolling on the Boardwalk, renting surrey bikes, ferry to hollywood studios, lovely room, great restaurants at YC and BC. THE POOL !! But....I felt so far away from the Disney that I have known for years in the MK area. I had serious FOMO. No late night runs to Main St bakery, all the bustle of other guests, no dining at GF/CR/Poly. It was too quiet at YC !!! Maybe someday Ill find my happy medium!

Bag check for the monorail? When did that start?

They can and do. Lots of locals come on the monorail, from the MK, mid day to take a swim break. They just wait fairly close to the gate, and as soon as it opens they come right in. Ive also seen some outside the gate yelling "Excuse me, I forgot my band, can you open the door please?" to the closest person they see. For this reason, I sit near the beach side. I would hate to be the one deciding who can come in and who cant and I didnt want to be put in a situation of saying no. Ive seen plenty with their pool bags leave the pool area and go to the monorail all wet. Now maybe it was check out day for some, but Im sure not all.
