My DH slipped when running up our stairs last night he put his hands out to stop himself but ended up whacking his knuckle on the edge of the wooden stair. He was in so much pain and went as white a ghost.....then proceeded to pass out :scared1: I went a bit hysterical but managed to calm down & sit him up as he came to...it looked like he had dislocated his finger and it was really swelling up fast so I took him straight down to A&E.

We got to the hospital at 11.50pm and checked in at reception and were told to take a seat and the nurse would be along soon to check his hand, there was only one other person waiting who was called in and sent home after 5 mins. We waited about 20 mins and a nurse called him to the desk and poked at his hand asking if it hurt or not then scribbled something on a form and told us to sit and wait.......still no one else in there just me & DH....an hour and 10 mins later I asked a nurse to find out how long we would have to wait as it was so quiet I didn't understand what the delay was. She said she would go and check, 25 mins later she appeared and called us into the side room to check DH's hand again. She asked him what he had punched????? We both looked at her and said what? It turns out that the nurse who first looked at it wrote 'punch injury' on his form - she hadn't even ask DH what he had done! We were then told that he would have to come back at 9am to have an X-Ray as it closes at 10.30pm everynight! So basically after over 2 hours waiting we were told go home and come back in the morning! :furious: We got home at 2.30am and I was so angry as I feel that we were left sitting there as they thought my husband had punched someone so they weren't in any hurry to treat him. :sad2:

Anyway we went back at 9am this morning and he was X-rayed straight away and we had to wait for the result for about 30 mins. The verdict - he has broken his Knuckle....they have strapped his fingers together and given him some strong painkillers that have knocked him out - he is fast asleep on the sofa as I type this. He has got to go back next Thursday to the fracture clinic for more X-rays & to assess how it's healing - if it doesn't heal properly then he will have to have surgery. I hope that it doesn't come to this. pixiedust:

This happened to my dh on christmas eve he ended up in casualty at 10.30pm and all ds presents were still in the loft, they sent him home with out an xray they said it wasnt broke, he was in so much pain and went back to the hospital a couple of days later to find it was broken:scared1: and he may need an operation, he didnt in the end but his hand is a bit twisted:)

Sending big   all round, it sounds like both you and DH have a had a rough few hours, hopefully the pain will subside soon, I would also strongly recommend you put in a complaint about A&E to the hospital as they were totally out of order with how they treated your DH.

Thanks Kerry, I'm glad your DH is ok now and didn't need an operation. I have never broken any bones (touch wood) so don't know what it feels like but he seems in so much pain tonight I just hope it soon goes away.

Thanks....I might put in a complaint as it made me so angry that the nurse came to this assumption! I fully support the NHS and the kind of crap they have to put up with for such little pay. I would never want to work in a place like that where they get to patch up all the yobs that have had their weekly fight. Full respect to them....but my husband is 34 years old and was their stone cold sober with (me) his wife :confused3 you would have thought she would at least of asked how it happened?.....sorry rant over!

I hope he's not in too much pain and his finger heals well!:grouphug:

Oh Claire-i hope hubby is ok.I also fully support our NHS and completley agree with what you say-but you were treated badly+agree with Belle68-Karen on complaining.
I also have never broken a bone, but have dislocated my 2 fingers(at the same time)and the pain is horrendous there-hubby's must be 10times worse.I really hope he is starting to feel better soon+the pain killers kick in.x.

Thanks Michelle - he has just woken up, the tablets have really knocked him out! I've just re-strapped his fingers for him as the tape had come unstuck....he is not amused as it hurt! :rolleyes1

I thought it was bad enough when he had 'man flu' but times it by a million and it's only day one! :lmao:
