Watch the disturbing video of 2-year-old Ardi Rizal in Indonesia smoking a cigarette.

Ardi is addicted to nicotine and smokes about 40 cigarettes a day after his father gave him his first cigarette at 18 months old. His mother says that he throws extreme tantrums if he doesn't get them:

"He's totally addicted. If he doesn't get cigarettes, he gets angry and screams and batters his head against the wall. He tells me he feels dizzy and sick."

But YOU'RE the parent and can control whether he gets the cigarettes or not!

His father on the other hand doesn't seem affected at all saying: "He looks pretty healthy to me. I don't see the problem."

What amazes me is that in this day and age, knowing what we know now, that people don't see a problem with it. I had to get things at the store the other day, watching a mother get out of her vehicle, with her child, cigarette hanging from her mouth and then I realize she's pregnant.



There is a website of pictures or newstories, questioning why people have kids. it's something like whythe****doyouhaveakid (insert a word for the asterisks) People amaze me sometimes. (For the most part, it is work safe. Anything with any kind of body parts showing have been edited/blurred. You get the idea of what is there without actually seeing it.)

Ok, yes this is really terrible.

But can I just ask how the heck a 2yo learned to physically smoke?! I could barely get DD to use a spoon at that age let alone handle a lit cigarette like that kid does. Is it for real?

IMO, that child is much more than 2 years old. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if he were an adult (or at least a tween) with some medical condition that caused him to not grow normally.

There is no way a 2 year old has the physical dexterity to hold, twirl, and ash a cigarette in the manner this person does. Seriously, most 2 year olds can't brush their teeth or hold a spoon properly.

I saw this on the news tonight. they were saying the mom doesnt like it, but the dad thinks it's fine. and the kid has a fit when it isn't his favorite smokes, really? let the kid cry it out, he is 2.

Ok, one thing in life I hate is a weak woman who would let something happen to her kid even if it is because of the dad.

The government or town or whatever offered to get the family a car if the kid stops smoking. Really? How about taking the kid away?

I'm not an emotional person, but I'd sit at the computer with tears rolling down my face. There were kids who were quadriplegic, kids who had burns all over their bodies, kids with permanent traumatic brain injury--all from injuries done at the hands of their parents.

Just because you can breed doesn't mean you should.

Indonesia is horrible for smoking, it doesn't seem to matter if it is tobacco cigarettes or clove cigarettes......it is everywhere. I spent 4 months there during a summer internship for college.

Any toddler who took a first and only drag, got sick and that was the end of that (back in the early 70's, not our current generation). HOW does a child that age become addicted? How did it start in the first place? How is it not child abuse?
