Some News and a little rant

So the exciting news is that on Friday I purchased tickets for us to go to Honolulu at the end of December for just over two weeks (December 28- January 14). :cool1: It was a big decision because it is very pricey at that time of year and, whereas I normally save first and then book the trips, I've taken a risk and booked the tickets (and a lovely condo) first with the plan to pay it off as we hopefully save throughout the year. If I waited until we'd saved it, the airfares would be even more sky high and there would be few accommodation options left. It's a great time for us to go away as the girls are on school holidays and DH's work shuts down for the first two weeks in January so it's like enforced leave for him. So that is all very exciting :cheer2:

However, my excitement tonight is a bit tempered and only my buddies on this board will understand. We came back from WDW having had a great time but once was enough for DH and he indicated he'd rather try other destinations on future trips. I, on the other hand, would go back in a heartbeat. :lovestruc Anyway, a colleague of DH's is currently planning his WDW trip in September and DH has been giving him advice. We were out for dinner tonight for DD14's birthday and DH says casually how he'd love to go back to WDW and how he fondly remembers what a great holiday it was: staying at POR, having the Dining Plan and the ease of the Disney bus system. Well, I nearly dropped my fork in shock :scared1: Whilst that is great to hear for the future, I have just committed a lot of money to this Honolulu trip and, if I hadn't, it would have meant I'd have saved about half of what we'd need for an Orlando trip. I'd happily have sacrificed a trip this year and waited another year for a WDW trip. Too late now and at least it means we may get back to WDW in a few years time but darn how I wish he had told me sooner

I so want to go to Honolulu ! I am still hoping for April 2013, let me know the condo you booked!

There are just too many places to go isnt there.

I think with WDW sometimes you need a little time before reconsidering it - as much as I loved it, I thought once was enough when our trip was done, but now when the pain of jetlag and the heat has faded - I am dreaming of going one day again.

But I really, really want to get back to NYC.

Oh dear Battymum, I wondered if you would be one of the first to respond as we planned our WDW trips together :woohoo: Here is the condo I have booked and the owners are actually Aussies which makes me feel more comfortable: http://www.vrbo.com/6740

Yes, I'm determined that the next time we do WDW, I really want to do NYC too!

You are going to love Honolulu!

Men? They just make me laugh :lmao:

Yes, after going heaps when I was a child/teen (thanks to my parents!), it's now been 23 years since I last was there so I'm sure it's changed heaps! Looking forward for my girls to experience a Hawaii holiday :thumbsup2

I understand how you feel as Honolulu is one of my favourite destinations and so is WDW.

Honolulu was on our list for this year but we had to cut it down so we are going with NYC and WDW again.

I have done Honolulu 4 times so I can't complain, also the fact that we did Honolulu, NYC and WDW last year :rotfl:

Also Honolulu has Ala Moana

You will have a great time!!

Dropped the fork! I would have just about dropped it through his hand!! How frustrating. But you will love Hawaii!

Looks like a lovely apartment Travel Mum!! I am sure you will have a great time!!

I've decided that a trip of a lifetime means you spend the rest of your lifetime trying to get back there!!! :rotfl2:

My plan - I'm putting it out there so the universe will hear and make it happen- Hawaii with the fam in 2013 -

Upstate New York, NYC and DL in 2014 without the children - :wizard: (mmmm, but will I be comfortable leaving them home????)

Its funny, I have no interest in researching other destinations - I just want to get back to what I know.

ugh, men. how dare he say he wants to go to other destinations, then issue a proclamation such as 'i want to go back to wdw'. how very frustrating for you.

just a thought -- are you committed to the hawaii vacation? can you get your money back and put it towards a wdw trip?

or do you have the option of getting together with some other disers and doing an aussie disboard trip to wdw where you leave the kids and hubbies at home and just those of us that really love dlr/wdw go to visit ??

just trying to give you options...

having said that, hawaii is on my list of must-see destinations.. so much so that we're looking at the 14 day DCL cruise from los angeles to hawaii in 2013.

Yay:yay: for Hawaii.

Boooo to your DH for telling you he wants to go to WDW again too late :).

But the good news is, perhaps you can plan for 2 holidays :woohoo:

So best bet would be enjoy Hawaii . It's a great location and very friendly!

Additionally bring together your DH's workmate and family after they return ,and again when you return, to tell you all about the great WDW trip they had.

That's when you drive home why it would be good to do WDW again :cool1: and get the go ahead to plan.

Good luck!:dance3:

:cheer2:For Hawaii:cheer2: how exciting
:rolleyes1Men they seem to change their mind like the wind mine also said he didnt want to go back and now talks about when we go back to WDW it will have to be a different time of year:confused3
:hug:Enjoy the holiday you have planned you will have a great time and when you get home you can start the WDW saving:hug:

I just thought I'd stand up for men here a bit.

Just because a guy says he would love to return to a destination doesn't mean he doesn't want to go on a different holiday somewhere else. The message in there is that WDW is a precious memory for him and that's quite touching really, especially if it's important to you. Instead of thinking 'I could have gone to WDW instead', it's perhaps better thinking 'I feel wonderful that Disney ended up being a really special trip for both him and for us'

Rather than be a negative, I think that's actually a positive and WDW will always be there. For now you have an amazingly wonderful trip planned to Hawaii. How many people seriously get to do that? So tempted to say 'pfft, women'. te he. I shall resist. (joke). :rotfl2:

Thanks every one for your responses and support - I just knew I'd come on here and you'd understand

I know we will have a great time in Hawaii and I'm hoping that it is a more relaxed, slower-paced, chilled-out holiday than WDW was. No early morning wakeups in order to beat the crowds and no uber-military planning like I did for each park day. Will be nice to have a holiday where we can just play each day as it comes.

And, yes I will look on the brightside which is at least now there is hopefully another WDW holiday sometime in our future. :woohoo:

P.S. I get so much pleasure about how my two youngest, DD7 and DD11, really do fondly remember their trip often and regularly say to me "thanks so much for booking that trip for us Mummy as it was so much fun" My girls are lucky to have travelled a lot but that was the trip that obviously meant the most and I know those two would love to go back (DD14 is pushing for Europe which we repeatedly tell her she will have to pay for herself when she is grown up- cause, unfortunately, it will NEVER be in our budget to take our family of five to Europe :scared1:)

Now, that is a very cunning plan and a great idea!!!

Yes, point taken. I did feel a bit bad later on when I thought back to the reaction I'd given him and it was probably quite ungrateful of me. He was clearly thinking he was being lovely and giving me happy news but I was just in such shock that I did not react well. It was just the timing of having just committed so many $$ for Hawaii just two days before.

I promise I will say something nice to him about it when he comes home night :flower3:

Hawaii.....oh how i miss it

yep , your gunna love it..don't forget to check out Aulani...

speaking of DH and trips, I asked the DH if he wanted to do another trip in 2013 or save some $$$$...
