Some interesting things about the Disney Dining Program

Another thing mentioned is you are no longer limited to $5 and under for snacks. They just have to be single serving things.

But it still has to have the snack symbol next to it on the menu. Not all "single-serving" things are snack credits, but there are some things that are credits now that weren't before.

Ok I just listened to the whole broadcast. He is saying you CAN use your credits for others that are NOT on your reservation so we are good!!! I at first read that the oposite way. Also mentioned that you can trade a TB or QS for 3 snacks. Another thing mentioned is you are no longer limited to $5 and under for snacks. They just have to be single serving things.
Yes you can do this. It's a horrible use of credits since 3 snacks will be about $15 in value and both a QS credit and a TS credit hold way more value than that. Which of course, is why Disney hopes you will do just that. Anyone who trades a lot of meal credits for snacks is their dream customer

And yes, some snacks are valued at more than $5 but not many of them. Most are less.

What is Disney's stance on sharing table service meals? We had free dining (standard plan) the last time we went, and it felt like all we were doing was eating. The August heat just about killed whatever appetite we usually had anyway. We are going again this year with the same free dining plan, but this time my two parents are coming. They are hoping to score free dining as well, but as of now, they don't have it. Does Disney let 2 people eat off of the same entree and use a single table service credit?

The only way Disney restricted use of credits in the past was if you tried to use more credits than you had people on the plan. For example you would not be permitted to pay for 5 TS meals when you only had 4 people on the plan. This would be at the same time and place.

In the past, if you spaced out meals by an hour or so then you could pay for more people than were on the plan. For example with a meal plan for 4 people, if a group of 3 ate at Crystal Place at 5 PM and another group of 3 ate at the Wave at 6 PM; you could use the plan to purchase meals for 6 people as long as there were enough TS credits to cover those meals. You would not be allowed (in the past) to go to Crystal palace and pay for 6 TS meals when you had a plan covering 4 people.

You could do the same for CS/QS meals as long as you spaced paying out or were in different places.

No one ever checked to see if the people that were eating were on the plan. It was only about the numbers.

You have always been welcome to share a CS/QS or TS meal as long as it was not served family style or buffet style.

With the dropping of the wording, you can now feed as many people at one sitting in the same place as you want. If you have 49 TS credits for 7 nights with 7 people on your reservation and you want to feed 12 people on your first night, then that is just fine now.
on our last trip we feed one more person for a few nights than we had on our meal plan and there was never a question about it.

Before it would show up when they scanned your mb that there were 2 3 or 4 people on your reservation
If you tried to pay for more the that number of meals they could say no
On our last trip last day we bought 4 quick service meals with there onky being 2 of us on the reservation
At first they were you can only buy 2 meals when we told them the second set of sandwiches were to take with us on the plane for lunch they let us buy all 4 meals

99% of the restaurants will allow you to share and feed two people with one credit. Via Napoli will NOT let you, and there may be one or two others, but once you make your plans, come back and share where you're eating and I'm sure there will be those who can confirm if it's okay.

Thanks. We are 13 days away from making our reservations. Things are subject to change (I think last year we changed restaurants about 700 times before we actually went) but for now the list includes:

Liberty Tree - Lunch
Mama Melrose - Fantasmic Package, so definitely no sharing there
Via Napoli - Dinner
Kona - Breakfast
Yak & Yeti - Dinner
Tappen Edo - Lunch
Sci Fi - Dinner
Chef Mickeys - Lunch

So, looking at my list, I guess the only possible share meals are Liberty Tree, Kona, Yak & Yeti, and Sci Fi, right?

I can't imagine you'd have a problem with any of those and you may even be able to share at Teppan Edo. I seem to remember a report where a mom shared with her child because the child wanted something that wasn't on the kids menu, and there was no problem.

Enjoy!

Officially you were not supposed to use your dining credits for guests not on your plan. The brochure would say so. Now, nobody cares.

Why would Disney allow you to carry over your dining credits indefinitely? That's not the reason why they have a dining plan - it's to keep guests staying and eating onsite during one visit.

I've heard this several times about Via Napoli, but what about pizza? I mean, how do you split up credits for a family eating a large pizza?

You don't. Each person on the DDP will have to order an individual pizza or an entree. You can't order the larger pizzas and share.

Ahh, I see. Well, that kinda stinks. I guess that's why I'm hearing people say to pay OOP here. Thank you much!
