At a pre-work meeting this morning we were told that so far there have been about a half million people who have taken step one of the program, which is registered. They still have three more steps to go:

Step 2 - Actually sign up with an agency to work.
Step 3 - Perform the agreed work.
Step 4 - Have the work confirmed by the agency to HON.

And the manager who told us this said it is her opinion (which happens to agree with mine) that if a million people reach step 4 that Disney will either increase or totally remove the cap on the number of people.

Very interesting! And definitely a much better number than some of the figures that have been floating around out there. Hopefully it will quell some fears that they'll run out of vouchers very soon.

It would be interesting to see how many of those half million actually follow through with all 4 steps. :confused3

Thanks for the update! :flower3:

When I went to deliver my families blankets at a Sunday afternoon drop off appt, there were at least 40 cars filled with people waiting for the organizer so they could hand in their blankets!! I have no doubt that 1 million people will reach step 4!!

It's awesome that this many people are getting involved - whatever the motivation!

As of today's press release, the number is now 600,000 (!)

I can't post a link yet (darn post count) but if you google "Disney Give a Day" you'll find the newswire press release....

Hopefully some of us who will be volunteering in the summer, will still be able to. We can't register right now as it is not within 60 days.

Just remember that's 600k signed up - doesn't mean that all those people have vouchers already. And some percentage of those people won't follow through the entire process.

Is there some way you could volunteer earlier? Maybe do Project Linus so you won't have to commit to a specific time and day? Then if there was something in particular you were going to do over the summer, you could just do that as an volunteer, not connected to the GAD....
We volunteer regularly, and do meals at Ronald McDonald house, but none of that counted for GAD, so we did some blankets for the kids in Haiti...

I would think that those persons really interested have already signed up.

Well, I didn't sign up until a volunteer opportunity that would work opened up. I checked out the opportunities periodically and when a perfect one popped up, I quickly signed up.

I posted this on another thread...But at this rate, there will be 1.5 million registered by the end of March. I know not everyone registered will follow all the way through but what is the percentage? I just registered because I had to wait as our volunteering opportunity is 60 days out (April). I think I'll be OK but at his rate, they will hit the 1 million WAY before the end of year, right?

Except that I wouldn't expect the current rate of sign ups to continue. I'd expect that once the initial hubbub dies down, registrations will slow down too. (The first weekend the response was so huge it actually crashed Disney's server.) Unfortunately no way to know what the "conversion" rate is of people that actually follow the process all the way through.

Some folks also think that, since everyone that gets a voucher won't redeem them (seems crazy, but it apparently happens) Disney may release more than the original 1mm vouchers they promoted.

I wouldn't panic just yet. Disney would be shooting themselves in the foot from a PR perspective if they let their "year long" promotion run out after just a few months. ;)

What do you mean by 60 days. We did ours this week and only plan to use our vouchers for August... I imagined we were fine. Should I be worried:eek:

I think PP is referring to the fact that some groups (or is it the system as a whole?) will not allow you to sign up for a volunteer opportunity more than 60 days ahead of the date of the event.

No problem with hanging onto your vouchers until your Aug trip. Once you have them in your hand, you're all set.
