We are at the Poly right now. For the last few mornings we have had guests in the hallways extremely early. Not a big deal, at all, obviously - there's no rule about guests not being in the hallways during a certain time! ;) I just wish they would remember that not everyone gets up that early to go the parks.

One morning it was 2 children screaming. It seemed one was yelling to his mom, the other was throwing a tantrum. Yesterday it was a mom yelling to her family about forgetting something.

I know that I'm not the only one in the hotel & I realize that people go to the parks early - especially with young children - however, can't other people remember that not everyone else staying in the resort goes for rope drop!!!

OK - vent over - thanks for hearing me out!!!

and that is why I love my homedics sound machine! ;)

I understand completely. I always ask for a quiet room away from the most-traveled corridors. But that doesn't always help. There are too many inconsiderate people who don't know or care that their noise could be waking up dozens of families.

Opposite for me, while at Disney last time, a woman in the next room one night was out on the balcony using her cell phone after midnght. I could hear every word she said. The next night, she let her baby cry itself to sleep for about 30 minutes. I was happy when they left.

My 'favourite' noise experience year to date... I was working in my room at BCV around 8am, and there were several kids playing in the hallway for at least 30 minutes, running and screaming. When the game turned to repeatedly knocking on doors and running away, I went out in the hall and suggested that they find somewhere else to play.

The kids went back to their room next door, and I heard their parents yelling at them that they wanted to sleep in and for the kids to go back outside in the hall! Kids explained that the 'mean lady next door' wouldn't let them, so Dad encouraged all three kids to start kicking the walls and the connecting door as loudly as they could, while he cheered them on.

BCV staff were not impressed with the treatment of their resort by Dad and crew, and came up as soon as I telephoned - the person who answered the phone in the call centre could hear the kicking sounds while I was on the call. :sad2:

On the other hand some people like to go to bed early and don't appreciate the noises late at night. Moral of the story is to be quiet when in the hotel. :)

I always bring earplugs with me on vacation. They are pretty cheap, and help a lot. I'm a light sleeper, so any little noise wakes me up.

Exactly - we returned to our room later than usual last night & I made sure to tell my DD's to keep their voices down as there were many guests that were already sleeping!

I'm glad I'm not the only one!

Am I hearing you right?? Someone being loud and rude in a deluxe resort? Come on that only happens in a value resort as several people think..
:lmao: :lmao:

Totally agree. I also think Disney should do a little more tol essen the amount of hard surfaces (sound dampening surfaces, sound insulation, etc.) within the resorts considering the diversity of guest and activities, combined with their rehab efforts.

Last summer, we stayed at HRH (Universal). After checking in, the guy helped us with our luggage to our room. Mind you, it was 7:30AM. Before the guy could even get all of our stuff in the room, the guests in the next room made a series of noises like they were throwing bodies against the connecting door! I looked at the guy and said "This is not going to ever work, much less at 7:30am." He agreed and said he would talk to security and then have us moved to another room.

What in the world were these people doing at 7:30AM? Couldn't they have contained it to the exterior walls instead?

Unless you are at a camping area with an enforced quiet time, you can't avoid people with different hours than you.

When I was a kid, my parents instilled quiet hours into my brain and I still follow them 40 years later. 11 PM to 8 AM.

But........ I'd say about 98% of people do not realize how far their voices carry when other things are quiet. That's one problem. The other problem is the people on the receiving end don't realize that the others are not trying to be obnoxious. To them, they are speaking in a normal tone or an acceptible tone.

Disney can't do too much more in the resorts. I don't think fire regulations would allow a totally sound proof room. You wouldn't be able to hear the fire alarms go off or even someone yelling to leave your rooms.

We're night time people. We don't like to be woken up early either. But it's part of life and staying in a hotel. I'm sure somewhere along the line, we've upset others who turn in early when we are stil going out for ice at midnight.

There are actually a lot of things Disney can add to dampen the sounds reflecting off all the hard surfaces inside a resort. If I recall right there are sensors and alarms in each room especailly considering the ADA where you need to be able to alert individuals with disabilities (i.e., deaf, blind) of this type of emergency.

It is sad that we have to rely so much on Disney to cure the problem. How about common courtesy? I'm an early riser, but that should never come at the expense of others who are not. I don't even wake my DW up, let alone the next door neighbors at our resort...

For as much as we would like to rant about this unfortunate negative, how about this: When we see someone publicly go out of their way to be respectful of others, let's say "thank you". I'm always hopeful that with positive reinforcement, the idea will catch on....

Ours was 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. - and we never called anyone during those hours (unless pre-arranged) and I still stick to those guidelines 50+ years later!

Funny thing is, our family have always been very early risers so the best time to reach my parents would be before 9 a.m. LOL

Anyway, agree with being a considerate resort guest. Would never allow our children to run up and down hallways or yell in the room or hall...but sometimes people forget in the excitement of being at Disney ...although encouraging/allowing children to play in the hall or bang on doors would not fall into that catagory!!;)

It disgusts me to see the number of irresponsible parents who actually encourage their children to be loud and/or rude. When we stayed at the Polynesian this past July, I couldn't believe how loud some people were late at night and early in the morning. :sad2:

My jaw is still dropped that they let their kids roam around a strange place without them. Kind of crazy dont ya think. I am an early riser but my son (2) is not and if they woke up my kid I would have knocked on their door myself.

Are you kidding me??? What is WRONG with some people???????? Ugh!

We've always had noise issues at Pop Century. Belive it or not, my quietest room was poolside in the 50's! On my most recent trip, I saw a sign somewhere on the grounds (wish I could remember where and wish I had taken a picture) that there were quiet hours between 10pm and 7/8am. Not like they were followed or anything. :(

Funny, the room we had in 2005 was Jukebox building, 4th fl facing the pool and it was sooo quiet! That room Tramp building, the end near the Jukebox building, facing the lake.

The noisest neighbors we've had was at Contemporary - seemed lots of parents thought those long halls were perfect for the youngsters to run off any leftover energy!!
