Is there a thread someplace that gives understandable instructions on how to create a signature? I have tried to do it and am hopelessly inept. And creating a ticker for trips? I really want to show my pride at being a DVC member and excitement over upcoming trips, but can't seem to figure out how to do it--I've gone in the User CP part and tried, just hasn't worked. I chalk it up to being 50 and this stuff just isn't intuitive for me . . .

Does the search function just not work or am I doing something wrong with that too?

Is there a way of finding my own posts? Or keeping track of my posts? And posts of other people? I sometimes will post and then not be sure where I should be checking for answers (brain overload--ok? (LOL))

Does anyone else HATE the use of the term "ressie" like I do??? :goodvibes

I see that there is a Tech Support forum on the bottom, but I just went through all those threads too and didn't see something regarding my questions . . .. . this thread should perhaps be moved there.

I'm pretty technologically inept, but I'll give it a shot.

first, go to the top of the screen, to "User CP."
Next, on the left hand column, you should find "Edit signature."

Type in your signature, then hit "Save signature."

I think that's pretty much it. Let me know how it works.

I haven't had any coffee yet so I will be back in a bit and see if I can explain things in an understandable way. It will all be gibberish if I don't have a caffine infusion. :surfweb:

Thanks (and I understand about the caffeine . . . . mine is perking now)

I am especially interested in how to add banners and tickers

Okay, first of all, if you hate the word ressie then you will LOVE me cause I use the word "siggy" :teeth: Cause I am lazy. It is a long word. My typing is bad. And slow. Sorry. You can hate me. It's okay. (and I use ressie to for the same reason ;) )

Alright. Now that we have established that lets get to the important stuff. Age doesn't matter. There are 65 year old on here that can make sparkly stuff in their siggys that put the 20 year olds to shame! You are only as old as you feel!

The first thing you need to do is find what you want to put in your signature. Is it a picture? A favorite photo of your dog? A ticker? A DVC banner? Whatever it is it has to "hosted" somwhere. In the case of all of these except for the photo it is usually already somewhere you can just post the link here. So we will start with those.

Sometimes what you find already has a link under it that says "paste this where you want it" (okay it doesn't use those words exactly, but it will say something like that so you know to use that link) . If it does then you copy that link. If not then --well, lets get to that later! Go to your User CP and Edit Signature and you get a box just like the one you use to post.

If what you are posting should be an image then you need to look above the text box and there is a yellow box with a mountain and a postage stamp in it. Click that. A box pops up. Delete everything that is in the box when it opens and PASTE your link in there! Click okay or submit or whatever it says. VIOLA! It should now be in your text box and look like this
.

Now check it. Go to the bottom and click on Preview. Does it look like what you want? If not scroll down and the text box is there to make changes and add or subtract things. If you just want text then you type that in just like you are posting. Notice above the box there are formatting tools. Highlight your text and you can change the font, the size and add color and other things.

When you get all how you like it make sure you hit Submit before exitiing or your several hours of work will be ALL GONE and you will cry like a baby. I won't tell you how I know this. . .:rolleyes1

Lets see, tickers. Most of them you see are from tickerfactory.com. It is pretty easy to use. It walks you through the steps to make one and at the end it gives you the code to copy and paste. You don't have to click the mountain thingy, you just paste it in. But there are several options. We are a bbC code board or something like that. I can never remember. I just keep copying and pasting and Previewing until it looks right and works. Helpful, ain't I? :teeth:

So the hard stuff. What if you want to post your own photo like I have in my siggy, or a picture or banner from a site and there isn't a link to just copy. You need to have a site that will host it. Don't ask me what that means, just trust me on this. A lot of people use photobucket. www.photobucket.com. It is free and pretty easy to use. There are others out there, but I use photobucket so it is all I know. It is pretty easy to use so it will walk you through uploading the photo from your computer.

If you find a picture from another website it is bad etiquite to just use it directly from there and occasionally it can cause you huge problems. You should also check on the copywrite issues, blah blah blah (there I have covered myself I think). If you want to "borrow" it you will need to right click on the image and drop down menu should come up and in the options should be properties. Click that. A box will come up. Copy the URL. WAIT, then you need to take that URL to your own place for it to be hosted. That would be your photobucket account. Where it says Web URL. Upload it.

Now you just follow the steps above to copy and past it into your siggy. The nice thing about photobucket is that the last line of code already has the stuff in it so you can just paste directly, you don't have to do the mountain thingy.

This didn't help you one bit did it? :confused3

We have a great Technical Support board where they actually know what to do and can help and you can post your question there and see if they can talk you through it. http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=43

Oh yeah and the search function doesn't work. I will answer the other question in a bit. I over loaded myself on that siggy thing. :)

Thank you SO much! And interestingly enough, I don't hate the word "siggy" just the word "ressie"--don't know why? Just a strange little quirk . . . . but I will defend to the death your right to use it (gritting my teeth in the meantime!)

I will try the "siggy" thing when I have some time to sit down and do it--will print out your instructions--I also have to figure out where the stuff is hosted that I want (I have a site for the DVC banners, which is one thing I want).

Again--thanks mucho.
