Some Dining Questions

Hi everyone,

I'm headed to Universal for a very short trip next weekend. It will be my first time there in quite some time - well actually I did go to City Walk a couple years ago for a friends birthday, but that was a drunken blur. Anyway, I have a couple dining questions.

I'm sure the restaurants in the parks (sit down) are casual, but how about City Walk? Is there any sort of dress code for these places? We will probably be in out park attire and really dont' want to pack anymore than we have to.

Also, it's Lent! For those of you that have no idea what that is - I can't eat meat on Fridays. So what would be your recommendation for a meat-less meal for our first day/night?

Lastly, any other recommendations for meals? I'm too interested in touring the parks all commando style, so I can afford to take the time out for some sit down meals. Oh and we are staying at RPH. Do you think its necessary to make any dining reservations or will we be okay winging it? We usually eat at off times anyway but still...

Thanks for the help!

I love the fish sandwich at Margaritaville, and the cheese pizza at Louies (in US).

Unless you want to go to Emerils or Tchoup Chop, I would not worry about reservations or dining attire.

I've gotten a good fish meal at the Latin Quarter. I don't remember the name, but it was a "signature" dish and had an emblem on the menu. It was grilled or blackened, came with rice and beans and a fresh veggie, and was the tastiest of all the meals ordered in our party.

My must do's at Universal and City are the blackened redfish at O'Bryans and fish & chips at Finnegan's, both of which I think are okay for Lent.

Yep, as Wonders said, except for Emeril's, park attire is fine.

I agree with the last post - the Latin restaurant has an interesting selection and Finnegans also offers some non-meat items. I have been to Emerils' and Tchuop Chop - I think they were both a bit inconsistent.
Some meals were very well-prepared while others were average at best. The atmosphere is more upscale and, although there may not be a required dress code, most diners were well-dressed. Definitely make a reservation in advance.
