Some Different (?) DME Questions

I will be flying to Orlando in April, accompanying my children as they fly down to visit their dad in Florida. I'll be continuing on to WDW after they meet up with dad at MCO. I'd like to use DME but wonder how to deal with possible delays in meeting up with my ex-husband: if my flight arrives at, say noon, that's when DME will expect me - but if I need to stay a little longer with the kids, will that snarl DME's schedule? What happens to my checked luggage in the meantime?

Also, on the return trip, will it present a problem to take DME to MCO but then wait until I get there to get boarding passes for all of us after meeting back up with the kids?

Many thanks for any info!

The people at ME are amazingly accommodating. When you book the trip and get the forms from them, call the toll free number, and ask them just to double check.

However, as I understand it; the ME will take your luggage to your hotel. They would hold it at the lobby for you, and then bring it over once you check in. You can take your time getting to the bus. I know they don't care too much. We went shopping when we got off the plane.

On the return trip - for us, we were going on to visit relatives in northern Florida, so we used ME to get the the airport to rent a car. So I know they don't care if you get there early or late, they will ask you what time you want to return.

Just call them after you have your confirmation number.

Okay, first, you don't have a reservation on a specific Magical Express bus - so if you get off the plane at noon but don't check in at the Welcome Center until 3 PM, no big deal.

Now, on the return trip DME will pick you up about 2.75 to three hours prior to your flight departure time. As long as you're sure your kids will be at the airport in time for you all to get through security and to the gate, yeah, of COURSE you can wait until you get there to obtain your boarding passes. There's no rule anywhere, airline or otherwise, that passengers must arrive at the airport already in possession of boarding passes.

I have always heard the DME will not transport your luggage to the resort until you check in and board a bus to prevent them from becoming a luggage transport system.

Re: ME cross checking luggage

I don't think that they really check that closely. Maybe when its really dead. But, I have been wrong before. Either way, your luggage will arrive shortly after you do at your room.

But if the OP is going to be hanging around the airport for awhile then it won't really matter if the lugagge isn't transported until after the OP boards the bus, know what I mean?

Psst! That requires a conscious effort (more labor; the buzzword is 'proactiveness') and also magnifies certain kinds of rare glitches that adversely affect guests.

Also the primary reason why luggage might not be delivered to a room prior to your checking in at the resort is that guests often make special room requests at check in.
