Some days I LOVE my job!

Some of you may know I work in an animal shelter. For the most part I love my job. Some days are rough, but overall I love it. There's nothing better than having 30 dogs barking and wagging their tails, excited to see you!

The past couple weeks have been rough there. Full kennel and all kinds of craziness but today I just had one of those moments where I was like "this is why I'm here." I have an older terrier mix, kind of shaggy looking, doesn't really stand out, but very friendly. He's just the typical "pound dog". A wonderful family fell in love with him and decided to adopt. Mom and daughter came in to visit him today so I let them take him into the visiting room. I went in to get him when they were done and the dog was sitting on the girl's lap. Both daughter and dog had the biggest smiles. Daughter looks up and says "this is like holding love in my hands!" . For the rest of the day I couldn't help but smile everytime I walked past that dog.

It's usually the quiet ones that make the sweetest dogs. Mine was like that at the pound. Of course at the time, we were just searching the shelters looking for the right size dog. Kari spotted her and said "that's the one". Didn't have to give her a second look, look at her info, she just said, that's the one. Of course Kiani then chose me as her favorite person in the world, nothing mattered except me.

We adopted our dog from the local animal shelter about 7 years ago(she was a puppy) she just sat and looked at us while the other puppies were jumping all over the place and yapping. We took her home and it was the best thing we ever did, she is still the sweetest dog ever.

I'm loving hearing your stories about your shelter dogs! And somebody mentioned whether the dog will go home soon. He is getting neutered today and will go home tomorrow.

When I adopt animals at a shelter I feel good, yet still bad.

I want to adopt all of them!! I adopt one, but then see the others there and how sad they look and its as though they are yelling "PICK ME! TAKE ME HOME!"

and they give you those sad eyes..

We got our golden mix,Buster, from a shelter 10 1/2 years ago. We had just moved into our house and I wanted a dog. My husband goes to the pound looking for a puppy and brings home a full grown dog. I asked him what happened cause I thought we agreed on a pup for the kids. He said he couldn't leave him there cause the guy said they were about to put him to sleep. You know what Buster is without a doubt THE BEST DOG I have ever had in my life. He came housetrained, doesn't bark unless there is something to bark at, doesn't bite. Now he is about 15 years old and he is showing his age. He's an old man now and we care for him accordingly.

My 3rd grade Girl Scout Brownie troop is working on a service project for our local Humane Society. We are collecting needed items, and making homemade dog and cat treats to bring. Their hearts are already melting and we haven't even visited. I'm sure when we do, 20 girls will be saying they want to work in a shelter when they grow up.
