Some Canceling at the S/D

Called the S/D to see about adding another day to our reservations at the Teacher's Rate (YES!) and just asked if they had been getting a lot of cancellations due to the new AP rates. The representative just laughed and said, "Oh, yes". She said about half were canceling and the other half wondering when the last date would be for them to cancel their reservations.

I had thought (and now know) that these AP rates probably hurt the S/D. Do you think they new that Disney was going to do this and that's why they did their own AP rates earlier?

I'm sure this happens often when people are waiting on AP rates. This year I too bookes the Swan. Reading peoples opinions about AP rates not coming out and the fact that they released the Sept rates and then pulled them the same day, I began to worry that no rates would be available for my stay. I booked the Swan because I wanted something in that Epcot area. I did get ap rates at the BW and as soon as I recieve my confirmation sheet from Disney im canceling my Swan reservation. I'm sure some who wanted the Swan or Dolphin but was unable to get a discounted rate now can and they too will be happy.

It's too bad.....all those people will be missing out on two REALLY incredible hotels that are often looked over!

I've stayed at various levels at Disney and by far my families stay at the Grand Floridian was HORRIBLE, whereas all three of our stays at the Dolphin have been cheap, friendly, and smooth running.

I am keeping the Dolphin!! I did call to see if the Poly had anything left for my dates even though it would have been $370 more - but the only availability was AKL. Since the only reason I even called about the Poly was convenience (monorail resort) I was not about to give up the Dolphin. I think in the end many people will stay, because there is very little available.

Hi Pkdcoastrs and 3forme - We too are sticking with the Swan. I have read so many great things about it, that I am looking forward to trying it. If it is 1/2 as nice as everyone says and they continue to offer great prices well in advance, I think that we will have a new favorite at Disney. Thus far, I must say that I like the way the Swan does business - very pleasant helpful CM's when I have talked to them on the phone, great location, HEAVENLY beds, and excellent prices!!! Am doing the SWAN dance here in Pennsylvania.
