Some Aulani Disappointments

Just got back and had a great time but little things ARE missing at Aulani. I stayed at the Grand Californian in September and they had robes, slippers, toothbrushes, mouthwash, cotton squares/Q-tips/nail files in their rooms. They also had fruit water, sunscreen, and after sun lotion at their pools. All of that should be available at Aulani and it's not. We walked along the beach path past Four Seasons and they had the water, sunscreen, etc. their guests could use so it's possible to provide those things in Hawaii. Aulaini could make it a little more luxurious for a very small investment.

Our partial ocean view was spectacular and we are just two adults and never had issues finding chairs at the adult pool. All the staff we encountered were kind and helpful. And, the Aulani spa is heads and shoulders above the spa at the Grand Californian but even at the spa some of the showers in the hydrotherapy garden weren't working. Not a big deal but just indicates either a lack of upkeep or maybe not the workforce on Oahu needed to be able to properly maintain a property like Aulani.
Nothing says "luxury" like a complimentary disposable toothbrush that will slice your gums up in a single use.

That's always the funniest thing about flying business/first class to me. The first thing they do to make you feel "fancy" is give you a shrink-wrapped polyester blanket and a toiletry kit of the biggest piece of crap cosmetic products you can imagine.

LOL! That toothbrush didn't slice my gums. I was just pointing out that Aulani could up its game a bit.

Honestly Aulani guests already contribute so much to the local landfill that I don’t think we need to add disposable toothbrushes to the piles.

I am speaking of the copious amounts of stuff people leave in the ice rooms that tend to get thrown out within the hour. Yes sometimes people can grab stuff but a large amount of the time it gets thrown out. It’s rather shocking how people stock up at Costco for a 5 day vacation.

Counterpoint: if owners could reserve some folding chairs, beach umbrellas, or pool noodles or other convenient things for when all the regular chairs and rafts are gone, we would be less likely to order them at Costco/target, etc. or even owner lockers for those items for those of us who come each year.
