We will be arriving at DW on June 7th for 6 nights. We put in a bid at BCV for 250 points at 75.00. a point. At that price disney should not be interested. I am guessing in about 6 weeks we will be able to make reservations if all goes well.
That would only leave us about a month to try and get a DVC property. The whole 250 points will be availiable.
Should we protect ourselves incase nothing is availiable with that 1 month time frame by reserving outside the DVC system.
We would like at least a 1 bedroom for the 6 nites. Two boys and my wife. If something is avaiable in the DVC system could we cancel at one of the resorts? Are there some other options to make sure we don't sleep in the car? Thanks Dennis

Sleeping in the car wouldn't sit well with my wife either. If you know a DVC member you can ask them to check availability now, so at least you'll know what you may be dealing with. You can cancel a CRO reservation within 5 days of arrival I believe and get your deposit back. You could also rent your newly purchased points to offset any forced cash transaction you may end up with. Or if you have that good friend who is a DVC member, you could have them make your June ressie now, and transfer your points to them for later use. Plus, I'm sure others will have additional thoughts.

i think you should definitely make a backup hotel reservation somewhere. either book on Disney Property (i heard that the recent discount codes out cover some of the DVC properties... but availability is probably extremely low), or somewhere offsite. just make sure to get a good cancellation policy.

i have heard people say that WDW in early June is not as busy as the rest of the month, so you never know. you could be lucky and get a room at last minute. if you use the waitlist system, and do day-by-day, i think you would succeed at getting a 1bdrm at a larger resort like OKW. the problem with day-by-day is that since you'll be within 30 days, if things don't work out, you could end up with holding acct points.

when we bought our resale, it took 6.5 weeks from the day we submitted the buy offer to the day MS had our info in their systems. good luck.

I doubt you will have any problem getting a room at WDW on that date anytime. It is still the slow season.

I agree with Pa@OKW95::yes::

I doubt you'll have a problem getting somewhere on property in a DVC resort -- just may not have availibility at your first choice. OKW is quite large so you may not have a problem getting a 1bdrm there on short notice, BCV's on the other hand is probably a no chance at all on short notice. But for early June you probably won't have a problem getting in somewhere.

Good luck!;)

I agree with Disneyberry on this one. If it were me (I'm not much for gambling, LOL), I'd make a back up reservation for cash - even if it were for 2 rooms at one of the value resorts. You can ask for connecting.

As already mentioned, most room-only, on site, cash reservations can be cancelled 5 days prior to arrival without penalty. You might have to send a one night deposit, but that would be worth it to me just for the peace of mind. And of course, if all works out, the deposit will be returned. (Make sure of the cancellation policy before you book - CRO/WDWTC may try to sell you a "package" and the cancllation policies for those are different)

FWIW, I' not quite as optimistic as the others about getting a 6 night reservation in early June with only a month's lead time. DVC sends its unreserved point inventory to CRO at the 60 day mark and so members are competing with the general public for rooms at that point. It could still work out (HOPE SO), but I think the odds are 50-50 or worse. So, if the trip is important to your family, make the back up reservation!

Good luck with your resale and also with booking your first trip home.

Best wishes - hope to officially welcome you home very soon!

I appreciate the advice. Can I make CRO reservations at one of the DVC properties on a cash basis? Do I need to wait for a certain time frame before doing this.?
Once my DVC goes through are there any risks being on the waiting lists to my points if nothing comes up. Dennis

CRO can make cash reservations at DVC properties. I would recommend you do have some type of cash reservation as a back-up. Cancellation is 5 nights out, so you would probably be able to cancel if you r DVC property comes through.

As other posters have said, you may be able to get something on short notice, it just might not be at your first choice of resort. Let me say, they are all nice. We've seen them all, stayed at all except VWL, and love them all.

I odn't think there is a risk to your points if you waitlist and nothing comes up. That happened to us a couple of years ago, and nothing happened to our points.

Good luck!

You can make a reservation at the DVC resorts for cash through CRO but you won't get the member discount just yet. I agree with what's already been said, make the reservation at a value resort as your back up and then as soon as your re-sale goes through, get on the line with MS and try to make the new reservation. There is no risk to your points if nothing comes up.
