Well, I've introduced myself recently and told you I was loving Atkins. I did really well on Induction and then went off for 2 weeks then went back on. Did well again. But then I discovered something.... the low carb treats. I found the 0 carb candies, and the Advantage Atkins bars. Now I can't leave them alone:( The candies seem to stall my weight loss cause I've stopped losing. I am constantly bloated. And I crave sweets even worse now. I read something about the advantage bars stalling some people, I was just hoping it wouldn't be me:rolleyes: Now today I was feeling rather frustrated and discouraged that I decided to binge and my husband had bought me two boxes of the Atkins bars(peanut butter and mochacrisp) Yummy! 3 bars later I am realizing I am going to have to go back to just the basic induction stuff. sigh...I don't seem to have any self control when I include this stuff, it brings out my sweet tooth and cravings. Maybe I should put them in the freezer and try just pulling one out in 1 week or so. Has anyone ever done that? Do they freeze alright or will I ruin them. Does anyone else find the 0 carb or low carb treats effect them? How discouraging... It wouldn't be so bad once in a while but I can't seem to stop now that I've started. It just seems so hard now just to go back to induction eating. Any insight on this and how this all works physically would be greatly appreciated!!:D

I think you said it best. You need to go back on Induction and stay away from the "legal" treats.

The Atkins bars are good - but you probably shouldn't eat them as often as you are. I usually have one for breakfast with coffee - during the weekdays. (choc mocha crisp). But, if I have another one for a snack, I won't lose any weight that day. I think they make a good meal replacement, but they have too many carbs/sugar alcohols to be adding as a snack to the meals I'm already eating.

Do Induction for a week to jump-start yourself again and eat healthy meats, cheeses, veggies, etc. You will notice a difference in just a few days! Good luck! :D

As great as some of those things are, I think they stall me. :( I made the decision to just stay away from them. I tell myself that I need to concentrate on losing weight right now. The sweet stuff will all still be there when I get to maintenance phase. :)

I do have sugar free jello and popsicles. Usually about 1 every other day. I also have strawberries with homemade whipped cream. (Heavy cream whipped with Splenda.) About once a month I'll have some LeCarb ice cream with DaVinci syrup.

I don't think the bars are too bad, but I would recommend limiting them to a few times a week. Good luck kicking the habit. :)

I just wanted to add, a lot of people believe you really can't deduct all of the carbs for sugar alcohols.

I LOOOVVEEE the Oreo Atkins bars, but noticed when I was having one a day, my weight stalled!

So, I have chopped them in half, and have them in my desk at work, where I take one when the treats people bring in gets too difficult to resist!

I would definately go back to induction and learn from your body!!

Good luck!!:teeth:

No matter what eating plan you follow you cannot just eat unlimited treats. That's just common sense.

My husband and I use the low carb bars and cookies as an occasional treat or emergency meal replacement.

Go back to induction and break your dependence on these treats again. After that try to limit them and use them as a rare treat.

Not only do these low carb products tend to stall losing for some people, they also knock them out of ketosis. Since you find yourself eating 3 low carb bars in a row, sounds like that may have happened to you. When you are in ketosis, your appetite is suppressed and you don't crave things, at least I didn't.

After induction was over for us, I weighed up snack bags of 1 ounce portions of macadamia nuts and/or smokehouse almonds. This is what my dh uses as his snack. If I don't measure them for him he eats way too many :)

Hang in there, just start induction again and use real foods as snacks after you finish induction. I think the sugar alcohols contained in the low carb bars and candy bars may be knocking you out of ketosis and that makes life less easy.

There is some information about sugar alcohols somewhere on this board, I'll see if I can find it for you.

Obviously, it is not a good idea to eat unlimited treats in a row, that was the problem. For some reason for me, common sense goes right out the window when I have vicious carb and chocolate cravings:eek: . I couldn't understand why the cravings were so bad again when they hadn't been before when I was doing induction pre "legal treats". I know you are right Katholyn, I tested my urine and I am out of ketoisis. The binge knocked me right out. I'm still glad I didn't binge on bad stuff that I was dying to send my husband to the store for. At least it was Atkins bars;) My husband hid the bars and candies for me this morning and I am eating on the strict induction phase today so hopefully I will be back into ketosis in a couple days.:D I'm chomping at the bit though today with the cravings and the hunger. It is always so hard for me the first couple of days getting back in. I think I'm like your husband Katholyn I'll need someone to measure out the treats for me;) . I think I will stay away from the sugar alcohols for a couple weeks to get back on track. I like the idea of adding the strawberries and whipped cream to the diet. Thanks Lisa. I'll do that in a week to reward myself. You have way more willpower than I do Michelle to be able to cut the bars in half. Rhonda, that is what I was doing, just adding the bar to the diet in the morning with coffee but with everything else it started a downward spiral...hence the binge. The sugar free jello does the same thing to me.:o Oh well... Iguess I'm one of the lucky ones...extremely carb sensitive.:( Thanks for the kind and caring responses!!!:teeth:

It may not be the carbs, it may be the sweeteners. Try adding back in just one new food every few days and see if you can figure out what you're sensitive to. :)
