Solo Trip - what resort would you stay at?

I travelled solo last month and stayed at Animal Kingdom Villas at Kidani Village. I booked about 3 weeks before, so I took what I could get, which was Standard view (overlooking the pool area). I did spend a lot of time at the resort this time, mainly on the balcony areas near the lobby or in the library. I was able to watch a lot of animals every time I was out there, including the giraffes and zebras, which are my favorites.

I always feel safer at an inside-corridor hotel everywhere else, but it doesn't matter as much at WDW. When we've stayed at OKW, I feel safe walking by myself at night between the bus stop and my building. I think it really depends on how comforable you are when travelling alone.

I sometimes stay at a value or moderate for one night before or after my DVC nights and I have preferred Coronado Springs or Port Orleans Riverside, just for the quiet atmosphere and the landscaping. I haven't stayed at a value resort for a while - they were always just too noisy and had too many groups to really relax.

Wherever you stay, just remember that you are at Disney. You can always jump on the bus and go soak up the atmosphere somewhere else on the property whenever you want to.

Have fun!

If money was no object I would stay at the Contemporary because I have always wanted to and I am in the minority with my family and friends. A solo trip would be perfect! I would love the short walk to MK and the monorail access.

Because money is an object!:rotfl2: I am staying at Pop for my solo trip coming up. Its not a long trip so I imagine I will be in parks most of the time and I am just happy to be getting away!

I was going to book a ASMu for my quick last minute (at least for me) Mother's Day weekend trip just to try it but I found out grad night kids can book any of the 3 all stars, POR, POFQ and CBR so that took out the mods and the All Stars for me.

POP didn't have any AP room discount rooms left so I said the heck with it and booked Deluxe since I don't care for CSR when I'm solo.

I'm not a big fan of the value resorts. They are noisier and busier. When I stayed at Pop in 2008 it was nearly impossible to get away from all the people and noise. Even in my room I could hear people outside and in the rooms nearby.

I've found I like the moderates much better. They seem more soothing and quiet. And the beds were more comfortable than a value room bed.

I love the deluxes but it's hard to justify the high prices just for me unless there is a good reason for staying deluxe like the resorts could be full of grad night kids.

Rats! I was thrilled with staying at ASMusic (I've heard it's the quietest of the all-stars) for the week before the wine/dine 1/2 marathon. I'm going solo for the week before then my baby bro is joining me for the weekend. But now I'm afraid it's going to be too loud and annoying and should stay at POR? I wanted to save my money for nice meals (I just LOVE a nice meal with good wine, especially on vacation) and I'm really not concerned about safety (I'm not stupid, I just live in NYC and work late nights so really don't think I need to be MORE concerned than usual at Disney!) would the amenities be that much better? Am I just trying to convince myself I'd be happy at a value? I haven't stayed at a value (and oddly, it was at all star Music ) since high school when our marching band went and played at the Orange Bowl and Epcot 15 years ago (this was before Animal Kingdom existed and MGM didn't have any big attractions yet) and I was just excited to be on vacation without my parents. Stayed in the room with 3 other girls. I remember it being not a huge room but on my own I suppose that would be ok? Will I be annoyed all the time? Is it not a "grown-up" enough resort? Is it hard to get a cab if I don't feel like dealing with the busses? (I assume you have to call for a cab)

Argh. Planning my first solo is getting harder than I thought!

love POP so POP it is when I go solo 9/28-10/4
even when I went with family (parents) i would come and go from the parks late so it was like going solo. i enjoyed the walk to and from the bus area to the room.,

I think you'll be fine as ASMusic. I stayed at ASSport for the Princess Half Marathon, however if you want a quite room I suggest you get a room that either faces the lake or the parking lot. The rooms facing the pool or the main courtyard might get a bit too loud. Yeah the rooms are a bit smaller but since you are alone again you'll be fine.

The bus service at AS is the best so I would not worry about getting a cab, however to get a cab is very easy. In my limited experience I noticed that since the AS resorts are more popular they have more frequent and efficient bus service.

I enjoy a good meal so the food court at the AS is not my preference so I would consistently take bus service to the other resorts for dinner.

I hope my response helps your decision.

When DVC isn't part of the equation, another vote for POFQ!

I am not a huge fan of the Value resorts. They are okay. I would stay at one if I had to, but not by choice.

If I didn't have DVC I would rarely stay at a Deluxe. They are a bit pricey!

Which leaves Moderates. I hate the theming at the Coronado Springs and have yet to stay there. I do like POR and CBR, but I also find them a bit spread out. The POFQ is quaint and right on the river. I love the fact that no matter where your room is it's no more than a 5 minute walk to the bus stop/lobby.

Room snob alert :lmao: JK, You are a luckyduck.... I would LOVE to have DVC!!!

But to answer the OP question, I LOVE staying at POP, yes its for the money too. Since I cant justify paying more considering we are rarely in the room... (we are ropedrop to wishes kinda people) I also dont consider myself "solo" since I am taking my 4yr old daughter on this trip, the theming is perfect for us... makes me feel fun and childlike and reminds me that we are still at Disneyworld even when we go back to our hotel!

I prefer the moderates myself. I'd like deluxe or DVC, but I can't justify the expense quite yet for myself (although, looking at point rentals, I can probably come in under moderate plus discount prices... would just have to have it all up front, so probably next year). As such, I hang out at CSR. I almost went POR for Sept, but the themeing doesn't quite grab me (I'm a fan of the Mexican/Southwest style), so back to CSR I go.

In the end, do what fits you best for your budget and individual style. Since you're going solo, you only have to please yourself :)

True! After a few trips planning out what others would like/dislike it's kind of strange planning a trip that I would like. I like to hang out at the pools, sleep in, wander around, and eat some nice meals. I love a food court that has a chicken caesar salad or a salmon dish.

Most of all I like to explore new resorts - which is why I always book split stays. This trip I have two new ones to try out - AsSpo and CSR. Should be fun! I get to take lots of pics and enjoy myself.

For dining I have V&A, Sci Fi, and Bistro de Paris. For recreation I have premium chairs reserved at Typhoon Lagoon and am planning a post with pics about that since there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of info out there on these. :goodvibes

I stayed at POP on my solo trip and loved it. I had a lake view room so was nice and peaceful and great view of nightly fireworks. I also loved that the resort didn't share buses with other resorts so he wait was never really too long to get anywhere.
