Hi,
Was wondering if anyone has ever done a solo trip to WDW?
And what was your experience like?
I've been to WDW many times using DVC points, this is the first time I'll be there by myself... :D

Thanks in advance..

I personally have not done a solo trip, but many on this board have reported doing so and enjoying it immensely!

You might want to check out the article at the following link for some tips!

I went both times after business trips in Sarasota, so my flights were paid by the company. I just extended my rental car and I stayed in the All-Stars both times. This was before I joined DVC.

I went without my spouse and kids. I have never gone as single.
I enjoyed making my own schedule and changing it without also without having to ask anyone what they thought. I saw more in 3 days than I did in a week with the rest of the family. Test Track
single rider line was great. I ate where & when I felt like eating.

I did meet some very nice people while waiting for Spectromagic.
My company has since sold off it's holdings in Florida, so this may not ever be possible again, but I am glad I did it when I could.

I am the kind of person that enjoys going to baseball games & movies alone. I have eaten many meals alone over the years too.
In fact, last time I was in Orlando, I went to Mortons for a dinner.

I love going solo as long as I stay completely on Disney property, using all Disney transportation. First my DH and I visited WDW on 4 annual vacations. Then the next * 5 * annual vacations were solo for me. DH just hates to travel, and he prefers to stay home with our two cats. Besides that, I think it is good for us to miss each other for a week. Hubby is retired, therefore he says he is already on vacation and doesn't need another one.
I'm still working, and I desperately need WDW !

Go to the solo board on The DIS and you will find much info.

thanks everyone... :D

Didn't know there's such a thing as a solo board... hehehe...

There have been a couple of occasions when business took me to the area that I tacked on a day or two for WDW, and found it delightful. You'll find it's really easy to strike up a conversation with CMs, who tend to be a chatty lot. I was a lilttle antsy about eating alone at a sit-down restaurant, but I sat at the "counter" at Flying Fish and had a great time.

There's just a lot to be said for setting your own agenda. Without having family in tow, there were a lot of "stop and smell the roses" type moments, especially in AK, which just cries out to be savored at leisure.

Go for it.

I have done two solo trips, one to All Star Music and one off site. The All Star Music I booked just for me. I went down for 5 nights, and had a ball!!!!!! I did everything. Went shopping, at my pace. Had dinner, without reservations (the CMs seem to feel sorry for you when you are alone). I had a great time. It now seems so much easier that going with people. I will go again solo! Maybe to the Super Soap Weekend. Yes, I am a soapaholic. Anyway, have a great time. I know you will love it!

I feel much better now.
I am a little worried about food and stuff.
Although I'm planning on making some food in the hotel (have a 1 bedroom reserved) I do want to go eat out every now and then (Mickey Waffles are calling my name... :D).

Don't know how I feel about eating buffet by myself though hehehe...
I guess I'll just have to try and see huh?... :D

thanks again!

I have done solo before and leave again in 6 weeks:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

It is great. You move through the parks amazing fast. I actually had more "down time" (long baths, book reading, etc.) than ever. I highly recommend a backstage tour and the free tour at VWL if you haven't done that yet.

Enjoy
Sandy

Going solo is great! As others have said, you get to do things on your own schedule. If you're walking along and something strikes your fancy, you do it! You only stop to go to the bathroom when you have to go. You only stop to eat when you are hungry. You get soooo much more done. Don't be apprehensive about eating by yourself. I know that's probably easier said than done, but it's really not a big deal. I got used to it when I used to travel a lot for business (couldn't exactly starve to death!) so I don't think twice about it, even at Chef Mickey's character breakfast. :) Sometimes. When I travelled for business I would bring a book or sit at the bar, but I don't feel like I need anything to occupy me when I'm at WDW. Just looking at my surroundings and people watching is enough entertainment when I eat.

I also recommend doing a tour. I'm thinking about doing the Backstage Magic tour on my next trip (during my solo time).

Many of us have done solo trips. I've stayed solo as a non-DVCer, and also as a DVCer (as a matter of fact, I took the DVC tour while on a solo trip since DH wasn't at all interested in the DVC sales presentation-"Whatever you want to do is find with me, dear") Studios are a perfect little "home away from home" for the DVCer, although some have even splurged on 1 BRs solo.
The only problem I had doing a buffet by myself is that I was in fear that while I was walking back to my table with my food, I'd trip and spill my food all over. Can you tell I'm a klutz? Try a solo trip-they're so much fun.

DH and DS may not agree......:p

I would absolutely love to go alone. Go where I want, when I want.

Don't get me wrong; I love my family to no ends. But the thought of being in WDW alone.....ahhhhhh. Now that's a vacation! :)

I'm a single grandparent and take the grandkids at least once or twice a year and I love doing it.
But I have also gone solo and have another solo trip planned for March 2005. I totally agree with the other posters that solo is great, do what you want when you want, there's nothing like it. It really gives you a chance to unwind. I plan on doing it at least once a year for 4-5 days until I need someone to push me around in a wheelchair.

My trips have been part with people and part alone. There are plusses and minuses to travelling alone. The advantage is that you get to be totally on your own timetable which makes it more relaxing. If you're not a doormat, you'll meet new people and socialize.
The downside is that when something special or hysterical happens, you don't have someone to share it with. For example, I was waiting for a monorail and saw this girl who had done the "sunless" tanning thing. Well, she didn't do a very good job because the back of her hands were orange and the underside were white, white, white... and there was a very distinct line between the two sides. I had a couple of friends that would've been LTAO with me had they been there.
My last trip, I was very nervous about travelling alone (for the most part). This was the last week of February and I had been dumped on the Tuesday before Valentine's day. It was not a good break up at all. (Lesson learned: Don't date boys that are of a religion that's one step above a cult) Once there, I decided I was going to be completely outgoing, social, and was going to have fun. Afterall, I deserved it. And you know what? It turned out to be an awesome, and very fun adventure for me. I had an absolute blast and I'm not sure if I would have had as much fun if I had brought along a friend as a crutch. Side note: I'm not allowed to be dating with 2 months of going to WDW anymore. I've had two ugly messes right before trips. Bottom line, it's my trip and I deserve a vacaton and deserve to have fun. Doesn't matter who's there.

Wow...
everyone seems to have such a good attitude about going solo.
I feel a little bit more excited now.

Yeah, I was supposed to go with someone but he canceled last minute on me.
That's ok though, with all you guys' responses. I am really pumped about going by myself.

Thanks so much... :D

going solo at any age is fun!

of course I like to alone - if you are not happy alone - then I doubt you would enjoy going solo to WDW. However if you are happy alone - it is a blast.

You do what you want, when you want - if you want to eat out you do - if you don't - hey that is one reason I brought DVC - the kitchen or kitchenett in each room......

You can also meet others - singles, couples, and families - go post your time on the meet board - they is generally someone going who will meet with you (if you want too).....

but that is what is so great about solo trips - what you do (or don't do) is completely up to you.....
