I usually travel with DH and DD, bit I also happy to be alone and I'm not uncomfortable with it.
Any suggestions for things that are especially cool on a solo trip?

Single rider lines at Test Track, Expedition Everest and Rock-n-Roller Coaster
Slipping into shows last minute
Scoring random hard to get FPs as your 4th, 5th, etc.

  1. rides multiple times in a row, instead of moving off to the next ride or attraction cos its someone elses turn to pick what to do
  2. skipping meals at regular meal times and just snacking as you go
  3. that one reeealy expensive splurge meal or experience you never get to do as when you multiple the cost for you, DH & DD its just not in the budget
  4. Have an afternoon chill out time somewhere that sells alcohol
  5. Do the opposite of your regular touring style. If you as a family are rope drop, go go go to close people, then take things slower or the opposite way. If you are a take it slow, late rising family, do ropedrop.

I did a lot of character photos, as my DH doesn't normally like to do them, nor wait in line for them!

Enjoy your own pace. Eating where you want, when you want.

The whole experience is fantastic once you get over the oddness of being there alone!

Talk with the CMs. They often enjoy talking about their jobs, and they'll talk with solos more because no one else is pushing to "Let's GO!" I remember walking up to a CM one day, and just saying "So when are you going to retire so I can take your job?" And then I heard ALL about the job. Sometimes CMs will start things-I once had a CM tell me that a TV station was filming in that area that day "But don't tell the guests! We don't want them to act different." And more than once, when I've been at a CS restaurant during a slow eating time, a CM has sat down to keep me company and tell me about their job.

Eating when and where you want is a big part of the joy of going solo... and getting to eat at places the family wouldn't. I also enjoy a more laid back pace and sitting and just being there, if I feel like it.

I didn't do a lot of this on the last trip, but I did strike up a conversation with a shop cast member when I saw that she had the name of a university on her nametag instead of a hometown -- generally when you see that, that means they're there on the College Program (taking a semester off from school to live near WDW and work onsite, often taking professional development classes at the same time). It gave me an in to conversation since I'd done the program myself; even if you didn't do the program, though, asking CMs about their hometowns or universities can yield some fun conversations.
