So I'm going on a solo trip in January without a car and trying to find a budget hotel that is in walking distance to the action. The hotel is only needed for sleep only. I might even consider renting a car instead of a hotel and just sleeping in the car. However, I think I wouldn't have that great of a sleep in that case. Please advice

When you say "walking distance to the action" are you referring to a certain theme park or nightlife? It helps you are more specific about where you want to visit - WDW, Universal, ect?

There are tons of hotels on International drive which is a fairly central location to all the theme parks and is right in the thick of restaurants, ect. You can walk to a lot of locations from I Drive, plus there is a bus that goes along the entire route.

As far as traveling to the theme parks, many hotels do provide shuttles, but they are not the most efficient in terms of getting there quickly.

There are a lot of budget hotels along Irlo Bronson Blvd, which is closest to WDW. You can walk to restaurants and stores, but I'm not so sure about nightlife.

It's basically impossible to walk to any theme parks from hotel locations. The only exception to that would be hotels in the Downtown Disney area. From those hotels you could walk directly to DTD and then take the Disney transportation to the parks via the ticket & transportation center or the resort hotels. The hotels in the DTD area tend to be less budget friendly then what you might be looking for.

Do not rent a car a try to sleep in it. That sounds dangerous and not conducive to a good vacation.

I know someone who recently rented a hotel along Irlo Bronson Blvd for $33 a night.

Try this

This individual rented a compact car. Consider checking carentalsavers. com for car prices. You could hit on a good deal. Remember - if you don't have a car you are going to pay for transfers from the airport.

Hope this helps.

Will assume you are talking about Disney World......
- So what do you consider budget? What is your range?
- How many nights?
- Also are you flying in and having to travel to/from hotel? I ask because once you add taxi fare split by nights that might change the value of offsite.

Really need more info to offer you best solutions.

You might be able to get a Disney Value resort for less than $100 per night. This would provide good transportation from airport and to parks. With a room only discount this could end up being the cheapest option. We stayed at Pop in Feb for $88 a night. Not too bad!

First of all, please don't sleep in your rental car :rolleyes1.

Depending on when you are going in January, one of the Value Resorts in WDW may be just as cheap as getting a cheap hotel and a car and paying for parking. There is currently a room-only discount of 15-20% available. Your transportation to/from WDW from the airport is included and also your transportation to the parks. Fire up a spreadsheet and see what works best for you.

Would you consider camping at fort wilderness? It may be cold in January, but if you have a tent already the cost would be around 50 per night and you could use disney transportation...just a thought.

Got 9 nights t the music value hotel for under 700. Guess the next question is how much daily for food? There no extra resort fee?

There is no resort fee. Counter service restaurants are about $10-$15 per meal depending if you get drinks and desserts. Table service (sit down) restaurants are more. Menus can be found here: http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/dining/diningmain.cfm

Since you'll be there for so long, you may want to consider grocery delivery. Wegoshop and Garden Grocer are popular choices. We usually eat breakfast in our room and we also enjoy adult beverages when we take a break.

I live in the area. You can stay at a cheap place in Kissimmee.Getting there from the airport is pricy. You can use the links 56 city bus to magic kingdom it's 4.50 for a day pass once in Kissimmee.Getting to your hotel from the airport you probably want to use mears shuttle it's pretty pricey.None of the hotels off Disney property usually have airport shuttles .It's to far away.I know there a few places on Plam pkwy near downtown Disney you can walk to downtown disney were can get shuttles to a resort then switch to park bus .I not sure my guess would be more then 50 a night maybe you could get one under a 100 but if going go pay that much yo would be better off at a value resort with the free transport.

For meals, have a grocery delivery service deliver snacks and breakfast. Consider ordering kid's meals in the parks. They are less expensive.

I personally feel that the walk from Palm Parkway to Downtown Disney is much too far to walk. We walked from DTD to Crossroads once, but had to get a taxi back to DTD, and Palm Parkway is quite a bit further away.
