I have an upcoming business trip will require me to be in Florida throughout the first week of December. My work obligations shall end on the morning of Sunday, December 11, and my hope is to take advantage of the 1/2 day remaining to me on that Sunday, as well as the full day on Monday, to enjoy some time in Orlando. I have an early morning plane out of Orlando on Tuesday.

I've been to both Disney and Universal before, but it has been over 10 years ago. Given that I am travelling solo and have such a limited time to enjoy, I have decided to focus on the Universal parks.

My main question concerns what to do on that 1st half-day. As I wouldn't be able to actually enter a park until close to 2pm, is it worth the money? I wonder if I might be better off just using that 1/2 day to relax at the hotel pool, maybe walk over to the Citywalk... and maybe save my trip to the park(s) for the one full day I have on Monday. Is there any sort of discount going to a park after a certain time? How late are they open? Could I get plenty of enjoyment out of a park starting as late as 2pm? Should I just splurge and buy a two day pass?

I'm thinking of staying at the Cabana Bay, as it seems to be a nicer sort of place if I decide to just relax at the hotel pool. (Are pools enjoyable in early December?) However, I'm also considering staying at one of the nearby hotels that are offsite but within walking distance as they are cheaper.

Sorry if this seems a bit scattered, but I'm just now starting to plan and any insights would be most welcome.

no discounts on the tickets if you only go for half of the day.

just checked park hours and they will be 9 to 7
weekends parks close at 8 (dec 8)

staying onsite would give you more time for the parks.
easy walk or boat ride from hotel to parks/city walk.

If convention attendee, check site to see if any tix offered as to afternoon sort.

I'd do a pool day on Sunday. If you are from the north, it will likely feel downright tropical. Pools are heated. check out citiwalk later that day.

Plan on doing early entry into the parks the next day get the most bang for your buck.

Jmho, if only one full day in the park (Monday) book one of the properties with FOTL perk & purchase 1 day, park to park tix.
