I really wanted to take a Disney cruise, but it looks as though that's out as is anything from Adventures by Disney. They, like many other companies, really don't want single travellers and the financial penalty they hit you with is just too high. Thank goodness WDW doesn't do that (yet.)
Can anyone recommend a good travel company that doesn't punish you for being single? My family doesn't always want to go and I don't want to stay home!

Sadly, the dreaded single supplement is the reality and down side to traveling solo. I think Carnival has true single rooms on some ships. The other trick is look for cruise lines that offer a low single supplement. Some cruise lines will match you with a room mate. Not something I'd be willing to do. If your true desire is DCL, pick low season and the least expensive room you can find and just go for it. Get quotes from several TA. I ended taking a room alone last year during a family vacation. I took an inside room (Cat 11) on the same deck as the rest of my family. Yes, I paid extra for being a single but being on vacation with my family was so worth it.

There are a bunch of companies that cater to the solo traveler. Be careful as some of them are set up as dating sites - I am stunned to find how many people will actually travel with someone they have never met before - seems dangerous to me. But there are others that are truly solo. If you are a woman check out the companies that cater to single women. A great one is Adventurouswenches.com. just google it...

Thanks! I love the name of that one, I'll check it out.

Adventure Women based in Montana is another women's only travel group. They run more adventerous types trips (hikes, safari). They focus on women over 30. I've done 2 hikes with them. Top notch outfit.

Have you done WDW solo?
