I use a power wheelchair and am non ambulatory. DH and I were just at OKW in a H/A,one BR with roll in shower. On our next trip DH might have to return home for a couple of days. Could I manage on my own? We took inventory and decided I couldn't in this H/A room. I could not reach the blinds in the living room to open, close or raise them. The Roman shades on the Patio doors were out of my reach. The door locks were too high. The microwave was over the stove. The floor lamps are foot operated. I could manage the bedroom blinds. I know maintenance would adjust the front door so I could manage that. But I would be in a dark villa and could not even make popcorn! Are there other H/A villas that would suit my needs better? At home I am alone all day and manage quite well. TIA

Think in can, not cant. Been there, done that. Maintenance or even room service can do a lot.

Microwave; move to sit on counter top. (done on trips)
Lights: pick up the slide buttons from floor and put up on table or even tape to wall on preferred height (done also)
Shades; invest less than 5 dollars in own longer shutter and have it put on, for some rope works etc.
Door lock, sounds like a lock off where problem is non accessible part door? . Never seen it too heigh for me otherwise and dont reach. If so, use accessible part door. Look into booking only dedicated or lock off with both parts accessible.

Etcetc.

I also used a powerchair on my trips, with poor arm function, no reaching, very little strength. Yet most trips were solo. Takes some time, but they tend to be very willing to help out, esp when thinking along with solutions.

Best found BW with one huge flaw: sliding door to bathroom requires more strength to move than even a standard door. Issue ;-) They could not get it to a level I can manage, caused by poor way these villa's and studios were built. Was offered to move (all accessible units have the same door, manager checked all units for me himself) but no way you get me out of BW. :-) So had to make due. They were willing to put multiple options in place for my 4 week stay. Since I was already bedridden at least 22 hours a day, needing my rest and drilling etc causing pain, they settled for "less" to accomodate me best and get it done quickly, resulting in a door taken out and replaced by altered shower curtains I could move and be safe incl note not to go into the room (mousekeeping etc) before calling me and getting a verbal ok to full proof prevent walking in. I always had rooms, villas etc remodeled and worse. Never an issue, made easier by talking it all over with management. Combining the needs, solo, long stays, becoming known all helped in this, making it smoother each time. To the extend of above and beyond, which obviously is not the norm or what I would ever dare ask or expect, but "easiest for u all". Lot of work, even just the norm but always done with a smile.

Thank you! Your solutions are very helpful. I should have spent more time on thinking about how to make it work. I am thinking that "Command" hooks might be helpful. I didn't realize to what extent the management could go to accommodate. You are an inspiration to me. Thanks again.
