Solo... Fly or Drive from Bay Area?

Is there a reason you preferred Lyft over Uber? I haven't used either yet but was planning to during my trip.

Just my own observations, but I felt the Lyft drivers were a little more mature and more seasoned drivers. Slightly more responsible. I would say that in the two months I was using the two companies multiple times a week, Lyft was 5 star every time and Uber averaged 4.8 (talking with friends on the phone, using inappropriate language, odd music choices like death metal). *

I was told by some of the drivers who work for both companies that Lyft is harder to work for because their screening process is more intense. I don't know if that is true, but it seems like it would make sense based on what I observed.

* I am not judging, but I get enough of this on my own, and don't need it on my way home after dealing with pre-pubescent teenagers all day :)

My husband works for both and interestingly enough he finds Lyft passengers more engaging in the Bay Area versus UBER, but I personally haven't encountered the level of issues you described as I have to take it every Friday from work and other times back home. I'm not afraid to give honest feedback, anything below a 5 is a fail on both sides but rarely have I needed to.

It's so funny about the music thing because we have eclectic tastes from 70s to death metal to Britney Spears but he designs playlists specifically that are "work appropriate " however I've been in rides where I do question it myself, while it doesn't bother ME , his goal is to make all his passengers feel comfortable. As far as maturity I've seen both sides of it but do agree I prefer Lyft's inspection process.

I know several people who drive for both. Lyft pays drivers better. I figure higher paid driver = happier driver. That's why I stick with Lyft.

This is great feedback! I just downloaded the Lyft app so looks like I'll give them a shot.

Watch your email inbox for promos. I receive credits for $10 off rides frequently and when I first signed up my initial ride was free (that was a while ago though).

Have a fantastic trip! I often visit alone and quite enjoy it!!

Download both Lyft and Uber & look for the best first time rider promo codes! Uber used to offer $20 codes pretty regularly although I got a $30 off last year through Chase for first timers. They both work the same. Take one to DL the other back! (And I'm TOTALLY on the fly side btw, I flew my last non-family trip & it is a lot less stressful. Yes TSA sucks & all but I didn't have to drive so I hit the ground running at DL & didn't stop! Who cared if I was exhausted on the last day? I wasn't driving!)

I sure will! Thank you. I'm very excited. 25+ trips with family (either parents or hubby and kids) and this is my first time alone and I couldn't be looking forward to it more.

Fly! We are from the bay as well and we always pick the fly option! We drove last January and it was way too long... 6 hours when we are used to just under an hour! The prices for southwest are usually really good ...less wear and tear on the car...not as tiring..etc. plus it helps that we live only about 15-20 minutes from the airport.

Looks like you already chose to fly :)

I think so many people figure driving "must" be cheaper, but when other things are factored in (cost of parking at the hotel, for example), flying and taxi/Uber/Lyft/whatever often comes out ahead, or at least even.

Yes I'm only a 12-15 min drive to Oakland airport, which makes it nice. I did reserve my flight a few days ago. you all convinced me!
