Have an AR for O'Hana's w/friend and her daughter.

Thinking of getting myself an AR for my 1st night at VWL (when Im a solo). Where would you choose?

I love going to dinner at the Kona Cafe. The food is fantastic, and I love to people watch in the lobby.

I was thinking of doing Kona too. I'm going by myself at the end of April for my 40th birthday. The other restaurants seemed to be more for family or couples (Artist Point, Whispering Canyon, Cali Grill, etc).
Enjoy your stay!

I'd vote for the Whispering Canyon Cafe. The food and service here are great! Went there as a solo in 2003. As I was solo (and not too interested in all the goofy stuff), asked for a table off to the side. Got a very nice table over in the far corner and had a nice server. She was very attentive and courteous, but saved the rowdyness for other tables. I always carry a book with me, so it breaks any awkwardness.

If you're set on dining on the monorail, I'd recommend either the Concourse Steakhouse or California Grill at the Contemporary.

Have dined at both Kona & 1900 and thought they were just ok.

I would suggest either Kona Cafe or Concourse Steakhouse. Generally they are not crowded and I don't feel pressure at either of them. I do take a book or magazine with me.

I would sit at the kitchen view counter at the California Grill. I do not like sitting at a table alone and having to stare around the dining room, and reading a book at the table makes me even more uncomfortable for some reason. At the counter I had a conversation with the chef who put my sushi together. I ordered it because I was watching him assemble it for someone else and asked him what it was.

I've eaten solo at Artist's Point, California Grill, and Kona Cafe. All three were fabulous. I would recommend any of them. Whispering Canyons, in my opinion, would not be a good for a solo as a group.

I ate solo at the Concourse this summer and had a very enjoyable meal. I don't take a book because I prefer to people watch and enjoy my surroundings. I felt at ease but I frequently dine alone and it doesn't bother me.
