Ok- I have a little "mommy is running away" trip planned in March. I'm considering perhaps doing a Princess meal- Castle or Akerhaus- just because I'm alone and may be my only chance to see what's inside. I have 2 teen boys 13, 15 and they hardly want to even walk near the Castle because of all the "princess hysteria." The same thing is true of Norway. Although they do get quite a joke out of making fun of Norway is the "Land of Trolls and Princesses" But, I digress.. Now, honestly I can't quite stomach all the "princess hysteria" either. Even when I was 6-7, I would have rather died than someone dress me up as a Princess. BUT, I'm thinking it could be kinda fun to eat in the castle.. So, should I ? I've read many bad reviews and many saying "well, you know- it's not the food but the princesses" Is the food that bad that it would be a total waste for me.. Any suggestions?

I vote for eating in the Castle solo - it's gorgeous in there, and I think it's well worth the cost just for the experience - and as long as you go in there with reasonable expectations, you won't be disappointed. My way of looking at it: you're paying 1/2 the cost for the location & picture with Cinderella, 1/2 the cost for the actual food. Taken that way, the food is decent, with an elegant presentation and excellent service. We have had dinner there twice in last 3 years and we actually liked the food both times.

We haven't eaten at Akershus for many years, but were severely underimpressed with it. I suppose one of these days we'll try it again...
