Solo Cruising

The last four Disney cruises I've been on I've traveled solo with no problems or regrets. Everyone I meet both singles, couples and families are great and I always make new friends. I was curious if they are any other solo Disney cruisers on these boards?

I think a solo cruise would be so relaxing!! The only thing that has stopped me from doing one is the single supplement. I understand from the cruise companies' perspective why they charge extra, but I just can't help feeling like I'm getting ripped off. I've enjoyed the two cruises I've been on, but have never done a Disney Cruise...yet!

I haven't done it yet, but I'm strongly considering it. I'm hoping to book one sometime in the next couple of weeks. I was hesitant about cruising solo at first, but the Meets threads on the cruise board are helpful for finding other DIS board members that will be on the same cruise.

The single supplement bugs me too, but with some of the new guarantee rates they have coming out, it makes it a little less painful.

There are some other boards that let you post a "looking for roommate" thread, but after considering the added cost versus the risk of rooming with someone where it might end up being an uncomfortable situation, I'd rather just pay the extra. It'd be great if you could get to know the person ahead of time and figure out you have compatible personalities, but I'd hate to just show up on the first day of a cruise and meet my roommate for the next week.

I figure if I wait until a friend has the same time/money/destination desire as me for a cruise, I might be waiting forever!

Solo cruising is very relaxing. I do whatever I want and I don't have to share my stateroom. I don't mind the single supplement because it's standard procedure for all cruise lines. I've been on other cruise lines as well but Disney Cruises are the best. I hope soon you get to experience one.

They are always Disboard Members on cruises that arrange meets-up so you have an opportunity to meet with people you have been chating with on the boards in person.

I've seen those boards as well where people are looking for roommates for cruises but like you said you take the risk of an uncomfortable situation. I agree with you that if you could meet someone ahead of time and are compatible that would be different. But I have friends that I wouldn't want to share staterooms with either.

You might want to consider one of Disney's short cruises just to get your feet wet.

I've cruised solo a few times on DCL, and I just realized that all 3 were on the Wonder -- a 4-night Bahamas, a 6-night LA-YVR, and a 7-night Mexican Riviera. And even for the cruises in which I've split a cabin with a friend, we usually end up doing our own thing most of the time -- different tastes in excursions, sometimes different shipboard activities, that sort of thing.

The single supplement is inconvenient, but sometimes the pricing's reasonable even with the supplement and I've noticed that lately I'm finding several cruises with supplements lower than DCL's published 175%.
I currently have the Dec Panama Canal cruise booked (as 11C, not the restricted IGT) because the price seems too good to pass up, but I may end up switching that to one of the 5-night Canada cruises out of NYC because of the novelty of the itinerary.

And even though I'll be linked for dining with a couple of my friends, I also have my own cabin booked for a September Fantasy cruise. 3 gals in a cabin just seemed too crowded for me the one time I tried it, and single supplement on an inside cabin was more cost-effective for me than even considering 1/3 of a suite for the space.

Whether I'm cruising solo or with friends, I definitely enjoy being a bit of a social butterfly and meeting all kinds of people. It's a blast!

Nice to hear from another solo cruiser. I wanted to book the Dec Panama Canal cruise for the fantastic price that was offered but based on my other vacation plans this year I do not have enough vacation days to cover this trip. I did book the May 2013 Panama Canal cruise which doesn't have the same great price as the December cruise. You are going to love the Disney Fantasy and I look forward to booking another cruise on this ship. Enjoy your trips. :)

As I'd hoped in my earlier post, I went ahead and booked my first solo cruise. :goodvibes It's the Panama Canal cruise in December which is 14 nights. If you're gonna do something, do it right, huh? :rotfl:

I might try to sneak in one of the NYC sailings prior to December as well. Mostly because it will bump me up to the next level of the Castaway Club for the PC sailing. :rolleyes1 I wouldn't mind finding someone to share a cabin with on that one though since they're only 5 days. :)

That's Great Julie! I wanted to be on that Panama Canal Cruise because of the great price plus my friends are going to be on that trip, unfortunately the lack of vacation days prevents me from going. I even considered going on unpaid status but it wasn't worth it. So happy that your doing it right!
