I do solo trips to WDW all the time, but solo cruising feels different. Never been solo. I can't plan anything for next year because my union contract is up in August. If we don't go on strike or only a short time, my strike fund becomes a vacation fund. So, I can't ask anyone to plan on a trip. I'll either go to WDW or try for a GTY rate. The Fantay is calling my name.

So how do you feel going solo?

I like solo park trips and I bet I'd like a solo cruise. The only issue is that darned single supplement fare.

True, that the is a little hard to swallow. That's why I was think on GTY. Probably inside. Unless a friend was willing to sail last minute. A GTY rate really isn't much different than a week at WDW what with food, room and park tickets.

Other than the single supplement, I LOVE cruising solo. I can do what I want when I want, and I get to do things rather than just wait around for friends to decide they want to do something. My upcoming cruise in February will be the first time truly solo (my sister is a CM and she was on board when I cruised the Dream in February and we were able to have dinner together), but I'm not anticipating any issues. (I have requested a table alone - but that's more so I don't get stuck with couples, and there's no guaranty I'll get it.) I did Palo dinner solo in February and was almost over pampered.

If you can do it with the supplement, I highly recommend it. :)

Just for a little clarification:

GTY rates are not lower than the prevailing rates. GTY is offered once a certain percentage of rooms within a specific category has been booked. You can still book a specific category, just not a specific room. And the cost is the same as if you select a room.

*GT rates are the last-minute restricted fares offered on those cruises that aren't selling as well as DCL would like. They may (or may not) be offered. And you book a type (Interior, Oceanview, Verandah) of room, not a category.

Thank you, I mean GT.

My DH is not going on our next two cruises (he doesn't go to WDW either). It will be me and my two kids. I'm a little nervous about dinner and being seated with another family with nothing to talk about, BUT I am looking forward to the adult areas to chill with a book and just enjoy some time to myself. I'm thinking of booking a Palo brunch by myself too.

I bet you have a blast. And who knows, you might meet someone special.

I sail solo all the time. I do request to sit by myself as I would rather sit with other people. They do not place you with family with kids but other adult couples or single cruisers. I have meet some really nice people doing this. I do Palo and Remy by myself and have never felt bad or alone. They are always checking on you. I like getting up and just doing what I want. True the single supplement is a pain but if I waited for others to go I would not go anywhere. I also do Adventures by Disney solo as well.

I've sailed solo a few times but I honestly would not pay Disney's prices to do it. Even at the last minute. My honey can't always get the vacation time so there have been opportunities for me to go alone.

Have enjoyed sailing solo very much. Met interesting people, sat at many different sized tables and was never bored. While I'd prefer to go in a couple or group it's a nice change of pace occasionally.

I've never soloed, but I did a solo vacation to England once!

If any soloers want another person so as not to pay the single supplement, let me know! Depending the time of year, it might work :)
I'd like to try and up my cc status, but paying for DH and myself just isn't feasable for us every year

I haven't sailed solo yet but will be in December. NCL was less than $500 in a studio cabin, DCL was $1900 for an inside. I couldn't justify so much money for one person!

I'm married! LOL!!!! My DH just has different interests and a completely different vacation style. His idea of vacation is a week of napping all day long or a hunting/fishing trip. He was a grump on our cruise in April (didn't want to do or see anything) so we are leaving him at home.

Perfect, his fishing trip, hers castaway cay trip; his hunting trip, hers animal kingdom trip. Now add Fla resident rates and life is good. :cool1:

DW and I have been seated at a 9-top table, including two single cruisers. We had a blast and really enjoyed the company in the MDR. My advice would be to request seating at a larger table, so there will always be someone you like.

Not necessarily. Even in the group I was with on a HAL cruise this summer where we rotated within our group of round 100, I ended up one night at a table with people who proceeded to prove through their conversation that there was no way I could be open about anything. Thankfully it was essentially the last night (pretty much no one ate in the dining room the very last night as we docked in Victoria around 6:30) so I didn't have to worry about randomly being placed with them. So it definitely IS possible even at a large table to have no one you like and to feel like you can't say anything.

I cruise Disney alone a lot. Just got of the Dream. Was placed at a table with one couple and the second night another couple joined us as they changed dinner time. We had a great time. I also joined a Disney meet group on the boards so you can talk to people prior. I also love the FE. If you find you don't like the people at the table there are other dining options. In fact my last year's table mate I found on last weeks cruise booking another one.
