Solo advice for Universal transportation

I'd like to get some advice for my upcoming solo trip in a few weeks. I am not renting a car and will be staying on Disney property. I am planning on spending one of the days at Universal and staying there late for Halloween Horror Nights.

What do you all recommend for safe, affordable transportation? I've read about using Mears and paying $16 roundtrip upfront, and that sounds ideal, but I'd like to learn a little more about that. How do I go about making that reservation, and do I need to know my exact pickup times in advance? I was also wondering if this would still be available late in the evening to get back to my hotel after HHN?

I've traveled just to WDW plenty of times solo, but I'm a little nervous about venturing outside Disney property by myself. Thank you for any advice!

The Mears shuttle needs to be arranged by calling them the day before you need them. It's very safe, but I'm not sure about their times. I believe that they give you the time rather than you asking for a particular time, coming and going. Also not sure as to how late they run. You may want to book a towncar for that...not inexpensive though...around $60 r/t, plus tip.
