Thanks for the additional info. I believe you are right. The airline is also partially responsible here because they were required to verify your entry requirements upon check-in. It looks like sadly they made the same mistake as you did. I can imagine it was a costly, time-consuming and uncomfortable situation you found yourself in. So sorry for you!
Again, I am super happy you didn't let that discourage you and that they remained friendly and professional the whole time and invited you to come back the next day with everything sorted out. Glad you still had fun at Shanghai Disney. Looking forward to the rest of your trip report.
