Solid wall verandah

Our room was just assigned and were given 8092. It is an upgrade and an excellent location (at least it seems like it to me). But it is one of the rooms with the solid wall verandah, which is just a bit disappointing to me. My DS is 2, and I thought he would really like being able to look through the plexiglass one.
I don't even know if we have an option to change this, but was hoping to hear from others who have had this room (or one like it). Tell me how you liked it!!
Thanks!

This happened to myself, DH and DD 1, We were also upgraded from a gty. cat 6 to a cat 5 and we were in room7634 which has the solid verandah, but was slightly larger than most verandahs. I did not like it at all, as we do spend a lot of time out there. Didn't ruin the trip but I would never want a solid verandah again. just my 2 cents.

If I have a Cat 6 guarantee - can I be certain they won't put me in a navigators verandah? I specifically asked my TA for a regular one.

that would make me most unhappy!!!

Just found my room # on the website!! It says 6624.
Anyone have anyfeedback for me on that room?

When do I find out my actual room # - when I board?

auntie k: If you have a Cat. 6 guarantee, then they won't put you in a Navigator's verandah, which is a Cat 7. They will only put you in a Cat. 6 or higher.

Have a great cruise! :)

Thank you so much Seaspray!!!

I did find my room # on my reservation on the website - I guess that's accurate...can you tell me where I can look at a diagram of the ship to see where I'm located?

THANKS!!!!

We had one of the solid verandahs on our last cruise, and it was fine for us. It really wasn't that big of a deal to us, but then again, it was our first time cruising, so we didn't know what it was like to have the plexiglass!

My favorite room (5650) has a solid verandah. The solid verandah rooms are all located aft of the nav verandahs, and aft is a great area...very quiet, since there isn't a lot of hallway traffic. Also, the farthest aft rooms have verandahs that are a little larger than the standard. You can see the ocean while sitting down with plexiglass, but that's not a big thing for me.

6624 is not a connecting room, it is pretty close to the elevators and according to my Passporter, does not have a solid railing. 6144-6154 and 6644-6654 have them. It is towards the back of the ship, starboard side. Hope that helps! :sunny:

Just go to the very top of this page and under the DU Logo click on DECK PLANS....then double click on any deck to see it larger.

Here is a link....

We were upgraded from an 8 to a 5, 7132, with a solid wall. Our first verandah, enjoyed having a little sunshine, the verandah wasn't any bigger, indeed a tad smaller because of the curvature of the hull, and we didnt like that the view stopped at the railing. Would not pay for one of those--if it is a free upgrade from an 8, okay, but otherwise would pay for the 8 and if we decide we want a verandah again we'll pay to have a definite glass walled verandah only.

Cant speak for the stateroom that were farther aft than us and yes, as the deck plans show, have larger verandahs. Some of those are also handicapped accessible, so I can't speak to how that would affect the room or how often it is occupied by a non-handicapped guest. But we do give two thumbs down to the solid wall, your two year old will have to be hoisted up by you, and it is just unnerving to have to stand back to avoid a Michael Jackson dangling child over the rail moment.

And our stateroom lacked the steamer trunk for storage--check the staterooms on the deck plans that have straight walls between the room, instead of walls that show notches on the diagrams. No notch, no steamer trunk. Must be a quirk in the ship's architecture that makes that necessary.
