Has anyone ever done any craft wrapping with silver solder wire? I want to try wire wrapping starfish and thought perhaps the solder wire would look nice. Not sure if it stays silver or would it turn colors like sterling can do.

Just to be safe, make sure the solder wire you use is lead free. Lead is often added to make the silver more pliable and is considered to now be unsafe, although it is still sold. You can buy Lead free solder, just read the label.

I solder at my job occasionally and I think this would work pretty good but it may be too soft for what you are wanting. Copper wire may be a good choice. It's pliable, but may tarnish but I think it would be a good contrast. With the proper copper wire, you can also make spirals and add beads.. I think its a great idea.:hippie:

Yes I realize that....I'm looking for the solid core solder wire but unable to find it - may just give up and go with Plan B...the copper like you said but I'd prefer the solder wire if I can find it. Going to call the small hardware stores in the area and try Benny's

solid core solder is solder without Flux, an acid that aids in the solder attaching to the metals it is used to fuse. Solid solder may still contain lead.

If you decide to use solder with lead be sure to wash your hands after using it and do not eat or smoke while you are crafting. As a side note, I have made some christmas ornaments by twisting copper wire and actually soldering the wire, they came out pretty good, but were quite heavy.:hippie:
