Sold Out Resort Direct - Current Year Points?

We’re debating adding on to our SSR resale contract with direct points. If we have a September use year, do we get 2020’s points now plus 2021’s allotment of points in September? I know this would be the case if we went with Riviera but wasn’t sure if it was the case with sold out resorts. I know they have to have our use year and points available and that it may not work out that way. We’re considering Riviera too but the lower price and dues at SSR is more attractive. Plus, I’ll probably be dead when Riv’s contract expires. 👵🏻

Yup you will get 2020 SSR points with your Sept Uy. I myself thought it was a little bonus since didn’t have to pay 2020 MF and it felt like I was getting double points, but the ppl here will explain since we are still in the 2020 year for your particular UY, they have to give you those points. I still like to think of it as double points so soften the direct price blow. 😅

Thanks! Do you know if you can add on with a different use year? I should’ve bought a September UY resale contract based on when we travel but I ended up with March. I may sell the Sept contract we have so it’s less confusing but I’m undecided as of yet because who wants less points?! 🤪

For add ons they sell you same UY. So if you actually have March currently then you don’t get the 2020 points. If you want Sept UY then the minimum points will be similar as if you are a new member. And it will be like you have 2 memberships. But you said in your first post you have Sept Uy? So now I’m confused ... and just wanted to add.. addonitis is real.

Now that I read what I wrote it is confusing lol! I’d like to add on a September use year and I meant to say “if we have a March use year and add on a September use year...” But I forgot we would get a new membership number with a different use year.

The key with what points you get is knowing what the current UY is. You always get current UY points.

MFs are based on calendar year so you always pay a prorated fee from day you buy because those cover the operation of the resort so you don’t pay for a time you are not the owner.

The later in the UY you are the more it “feels” like you are getting free or bonus points and DVD guides will frame it that way.

But, you are not. You are simply getting what you are entitled to. So, right now, we are still in the 2020 June to Dec UYs. So, those will have 2020 points.

As soon as we get to June 1st, then June no longer gets them because it’s started it’s 2021 UY. Hit August 1st, and August UY doesn’t come with them, etc.

With sold out resorts, they do not always have them in every UY so they can’t sell you a contract if they can’t offer them.

However I have not read any reports of them not being able to sell SSR in all UYs.

I think this has changed - my guide actually suggesting adding on with a different use year since my UY had a waitlist (we didn't, but it is being offered). Maybe the minimum is at their discretion if adding another UY?

That would be a new policy if they allow a current owner to get a new membership..UY...but not treat it as new.

Right now, nothing would surprise me. But, there have been reports of guides saying something could or could not happen only to find the opposite to be true.

The bigger issue with a different UY is to make sure one has a good understanding of how it works in conjunction with the other one becuase this are different,

For example, I have SSR points in both Dec and Aug UY. But I never combine them for the same trip, even if it has meant borrowing from one set when there were current ones available on the other.
