Hi, I'm a newbie so not sure if I'm posting this question in the right forum, please move if it would be better in another.

My question is about solar heating for swimming pools. I'm about to book a villa for Nov 23-30 but it only has solar heating for the pool. Do you think it will be warm enough or should I go with a villa that has elec/gas heating?

Thanks so much for any advice!

Considering that Typhoon Lagoon is going to be closed the 19th and 20th due to cold weather, I would go with the villa that has heating for the pool

Thank you so much for your reply! I came to the same conclusion and by luck the villa we wanted (with solar) was going to be putting in an electric heater next month anyway. So they have just moved it forward so will be there for our stay. Very happy as it would have been too sad to have a pool but not be able to use it.

Thanks again for your reply :)

We had solar for our pool, to me it just never got warm enough to get in. It was in the 70's with it, DH liked it like that. I needed it to be in the 80's for me to get in.

LOL I'm with you, 70s is too chilly! Thanks so much for your reply it confirms that this time of the year it's worth paying the extra for heating.

Sounds like you've made your decision but just wanted to say that in my opinion solar adds one month to usage in Florida. For me (a local who needs very warm pool water) that usually means using through October but not later. We have solar on our current pool.

Thanks so much for your reply Madivan, it really confirms that I made the right decision.

I did search the forum for info about solar heating before posting my question but couldn't find anything so hopefully all these great replies will help anyone else with this question in the future.

LOL. 85 is the maximum HOT TUB temperature for those of us with high blood pressure.

Part of it is also how cold it is and what you are used to. The pools in Disney itself are heated - and you will find people swimming in January when the air temp is in the 50s. The are usually from places like Minnesota or Michigan. Heck one of our teens was swimming in Lake Superior an hour North of Duluth in October.
