I just called on Friday to book for next year.

After I received my confirmation number, I asked how the work was going, and the Reservationist told me that Shades is now anticipating a "mid-December" reopening.

So that tells me that I'll be at the Contemporary!!

I'm not all that broken hearted though- because we just got back today, and were upgraded to a Tower room!!!

OMYGAWD..... the view was FANTASTIC!!!

In the not so distant past, I believe I had posted they would be lucky to be open by Xmas of next year, due to them taking more than 4 months to begin ground breaking after the hotel was closed. They were anticipating construction taking 17 months from the time of groundbreaking. That being the case, it would put them into Jan 04 before they would reopen (ground breaking began in Aug). If they're lucky, they may be open by mid Dec, but I wouldn't hold my breath for it.

Did they offer you an upgrade for free....or was it for an additional price? If so, how much?

Glad you had a great time!!

Flower, the trip you just returned from---was it a SOG ressie? I hadn't heard of anybody with a SOG ressie getting upgraded to a tower room before.

Wow, you are lucky! I was at the CR with SOG the beginning of Sept and since it wasn't crowded at all, I politely asked about upgrading to a tower room and I let them know I was willing to pay for it. I was told that since my reservation was under SOG that all those rooms were committed to the NGW. Looking back, I am now glad I didn't pay more for a room. We were never in there except to sleep!

Hi Noel- it's great to see you again!! I'd missed some of your earlier posts about the likelyhood of SoG reopening on time.... I just thought that it was funny that they closed with no General Contractor engaged.... if I could guarantee that they'd be closed, I'd book something for the Christmas/New Year time frame next year! I just don't like SoGs "Holiday Package".

Dis-knee- The upgrade wasn't an offer.... my DH checked us in, and the Reception Desk Clerk processed his papers and said, "You've been upgraded." Just like that!

KarlainKY- Yes, it was a SoG ressie.... honestly, for us it's usually the only way to go. I had to make DH repeat himself when he told me, because I'd never heard of it!!

Minnie23- I've heard that the Magic happens when you least expect it, and that's how it was for us.... I was just happy to have a place to stay!!

Hey there, Flower!! I just haven't had any updates to pass along. I spoke with my friend yesterday evening and she told me about the Dec thing, but I told her I had all ready read it on the boards. There was some other info, but nothing pertaining to the guests.

You wouldn't believe some of the stupid things they do there. One of the reasons I left. Simply tired of the stupidity and lack of caring by those in charge. I've wondered more than once how that place continues to run with some of the people they have making decisions.

I don't blame you about the holiday package. It's a rip off, plain and simple. Want to read what *I think* is going to happen? They will start selling ressys with the start of the package (usually between Dec 20 and 23). The hotel will not be completely fininshed by the time they are due to open, but they'll open any way because the holiday time is a huge money maker for them. They would much rather have to deal with the griping and complaining from guests (because they KNOW you will come back because it's so cheap so, they aren't going to lose your business and even if they did...so what? There are too many others to take your place), who will eventually get over it, than to lose all that money. I'll be surprised if what I wrote doesn't happen.

Oh, my friend did write that the construction people are now working on Saturdays as well as M-F. :)
