I read on the site that you can book your room 53 weeks in advance.. do they require a deposit? (I was skimming fast)

my main question is this.. does SOG have any connecting rooms? I have 6 kids.. all under 14 yrs.. and would prefer to have 2 rooms since it would cost less than the suite.. but it didnt say anywhere if they have connecting rooms or not..

We stayed at ASSp last time and I could do that again whenever we get back there, would prob. be cheaper, but SOG seems like someplace we would like to try..

thanks!

Ginger

They don't require a deposit anymore. If you give them a credit card number, they just hold the reservation with that and don't charge unless you cancel within the 30 day limit - then they will charge a one nights cancellation penalty.

They do have connecting rooms. We stayed in connecting rooms with my inlaws - it was very handy. The rooms are quite large, too, which would be good with that many kids!!

You can make the reservations 53 weeks in advance, although it sometimes takes a while to get through on the phone! You have to have the military sponsor's information (rank, branch of service, etc.) to make the reservation.

Good Luck!

Sorry to say, but they do require a deposit. This policy went into place with the re-opening of the resort on March 1. I have 2 rooms reserved...one was reserved in February....no deposit required. Added a room on March 3, and was told of the new policy, so that room does have a deposit.

Yes, they have connecting rooms, but they won't guarantee them. Disney will in some instances, but not often. SOG will not guarantee connecting rooms (or so I was told).

Reservations can be made 53 weeks in advance, but just so you know, the Christmas holidays are already sold out, and were the first day they could be booked. Happens every year.....

Good luck! We enjoyed staying at the old SOG, and will be there in a few weeks to check out the new-and-improved resort!!

Wow - they need to make up their minds on the deposit policy! They used to require them. Then when I called last summer for these reservations she told me no - just the credit card number. I didn't believe her because I had to pay the deposit before when we've stayed there. I called back to check on that information and was told it was a new policy that had just started that month (I think it was June). Now less than a year later they are requiring them again. No wonder people get confused!
Thanks for the update!

You didn't have to pay a deposit on the room you already had reserved, did you? I guess my rooms that I already had reserved don't need one?

Just some clarifying: You are correct. SoG cannot and will not guarantee connecting rooms. This is one of the reasons why children cannot be listed in a room by themselves, unsupervised.

SoG is NOT sold out for Xmas every year the same day reservations are allowed. Those rooms are blocked which means NONE of them can be sold. Guests are told when they call that they are going on the waiting list due to the fact that the packages for that year are not completed. Once the packages are finalized (which can happen any time between Feb and Apr), guests are contacted in the order they were placed on the list and the offering of the rooms begins. From experience of being a SoG resv agent, working the regular waiting list and assisting with the Xmas holiday list, I can tell you that as long as you get on the list before Jan 15, you've got a very good shot at being contacted, although it may be later in the year. That's not to say that those who get put on in Feb have no shot at all, but it's not something I would count on. Almost doubling the size of the hotel will change how it "used to be". As always, have a back up plan if this is an "important" vacation to you. :)

Well, they're sold out for this year already! I asked when I added a room in March and was told zero vacancy for Christmas holidays. I guess there can always be cancellations, but I can't wait until that late to plan...wish I could!!

Were you offered overflow rates at a Disney resort? If so did you get a reasonable price?

No, because I wasn't that far into the planning process. Had dates been available, I was going to take what I could get and hope it worked out for us, but since it's not, I can get overflow rates much later in the year when/if we get our dates nailed down. Plus, last time we went, my FL resident rate was better than SOG overflow...so we use that one instead.

They will offer you overflow rates, if not, if not just ask. But be sure to watch the special codes that come out because even regular codes occasionally beat the overflow rates.
