I had a question about Shades of Green...Is it worth it with having to get a airport transfer & paying for meals out of pocket?! I know the room & tickets are cheap but we are going in June for our honeymoon and only have a budget of 1500.00 for the whole trip!

First, are you elidgable to stay their? Military or DOD?

Truly deluxe rooms, great breakfast buffet and a good price. Evergreens has excellent pizza and good sandwhiches/wings during the day. Ice cream bar, starbucks, quick service spot, all a great deal compareed ro the rest of disney's prices!

Con's-didnt care for the dinner buffet (much preferred Evergreens or would try Manginos)

It's absolutely worth it. A lovely deluxe resort at about 1/3 the price of a Disney deluxe hotel (and no tax to boot). The rooms sleep 5 and are probably the largest hotel rooms on property. Easy walk to the Poly for additional restaurants, shopping and transportation.

This is my opinion. If you are on a tight budget and I assume you would have to choose between a value and SOG, I would choose SOG....ESPECIALLY since you are going to be on a honeymoon. I have visited the values on previous vacations and there are masses of children everywhere, the buses are packed like sardines and overall, it was just not the sort of atmosphere I would consider ideal for someone looking for a quiet location.

SOG, even though it has kids, things are so quiet. You walk into the lobby and it is so peaceful. The rooms are very large, has a fridge for free, has a small AAFES for all your needs while there and they are more affordable there than at a WDW gift shop. The monorail at POLY is just about 5-10 minute walk from SOG, which offers an even more peaceful transportation option. They have a hottub at SOG:thumbsup2 . You can also get roomservice. We enjoyed breakfast in our room. I was surprised at the quality and it was not outlandishly priced. The previous poster was correct about Evergreens. Good food, open late at night. My son likes the pizza (which can be delivered to your room), but I think it has too much garlic. My favorites are the onion rings and turkey club. We eat there often.

You can request a room farthest from the lobby if you really want quiet.

You should be able to get transportation roundtrip from the airport for about $100.

We were thinking about staying at the SOG but we wanted the DDP. I liked the idea of having everything paid for up front. We ended up going w/ the WL on the DxDP and our MYW tix. I really wish SOG could participate in the DDP. We're spending more money this way but atleast everything is included and paid for. What I would do is look at the menus of the restaurants you'd like to eat at, price the meals, price the SOG, tix and other expenses to get an idea of the cost then price a pkg through CRO. I'm sure going the SOG way will be cheaper.

We're staying at SOG this time because of the changes in this year's DDP. Now everything is not paid up front--you have to pay your own tips. At a TS restaurant like LeCellier, that can be be an extra $30-40 for a family of 4 you're now paying OOP at that TS meal. And removing appetizers from the DDP takes away a lot of the value for us, too.

Didn't mean to turn this into a DDP thread, but the good news is that not doing the DDP meant we could look at other resorts like SOG, and we're excited about staying there next month.

I have to agree w/ Sleepy- for your honeymoon-- definitely SOG. Values are nice and all- but in comparison, SOG definitely has a more romantic atmosphere. :thumbsup2

Congrats on your upcoming wedding, too!!!! :flower3:
