Can anyone tell me if the restaurants at SOG are open to anyone or are they just for guests staying there. It looks like they have some pretty nice buffets at the Garden Gallery.

You have to be staying there or be an active or retired member of the military or DOD. Access is strictly restricted to those with proper ID.

Anyone may eat at their restaurants. We ate there last trip. To make sure nothing has changed since then, I called today and was told that all are welcome to eat at their restaurants.

Not true. While its not exactly an impenetrable fortress, the resort is for the sole use of Military/DOD ID cardholders. They also open it up on occasion for those who have served with a copy of their DD214. However Evergreen's, which services the public golfcourse is open to the public. This is the answer given on their FAQ.

Q:
Can I dine in your restaurants even if I do not hold a reservation at Shades of Green?

A:
Yes. You will be asked to provide a valid military ID to access Shades of Green property.

PPS. Your not missing anything. A better question would be Why you would want to eat their. The food while not outrageously expensive, is worse than you could find ANYWHERE else. I kid you not.

I don't know who you could have talked to that made that claim, but it's wrong. Evergreen's is the only restaurant on SOG property that is open to the general public, because it also serves as the food service spot for the surrounding golf courses. During our last trip, we saw a group at Mangino's who were not resort guests, nor could they provide military id. They got a little upset when they were told they couldn't dine there. Security showed up and quietly escorted them away. Whenever we've checked in at the hostess station at Mangino's we had to give our room number and name, which was verified in their system. We've never dined at the Garden Gallery, but have heard it's not all that great.
